Final issue with CrossOver wrapper

Filed in Blog News 12 views 4 comments

So you probably heard that thanks to the outstanding efforts of magneto1979 we are now able to fully customize the recently discovered CrossOver wrapper.

HOWEVER, there seems to be another issue that still spoils the gaming fun.

Many games that work with CrossOver don’t work with the wrapper because the launched windows executables are unable to find their corresponding game resources.
This seems to be a side effect of the fact that we are launching the exe not directly from the Finder (like we would in regular CrossOver), but instead give wine the command to launch it through the wrapper.

It seems that game laucher applications and other windows apps that are able to lauch another windows executable file can circumvent this problem, however this is not a very comfortable solution as this would involve fiddling around with another Windows app before being able to actually play the game…

if anyone has any suggestions on how we could best solve this problem please post a comment.

thanks for reading and take care

cheers

Thanks doc. :)

This looks like the problem in Heroes III, we were discussing yesterday. The solution to this in winehq was to “CD” to the game directory and then issuing the Wine command on the exe file. Not sure how we can accomplish that in crossover.

Hey Doc,

if it is the problem I described, I found a way to solve it. Heroes III is working perfectly now. Still testing it out. :)

Heroes IV is little slow. Not sure what to do.
