Releasing RC4 out in the wild, it has a bunch of changes…
I completely restructured most of the wrapper, its very different inside…
I have mostly re-writen everything since RC3, though overall functionality is very similar, and there are a lot less bugs. most of that restructure you do NOT have to mess with, the internal apps do it for you.
The Reg files and Drive C is in the same place, in Resources. All Wineskin Engine files are in a single folder in WineskinEngine inside resources too, which is where Wine is as well as X11. If you need to change Wine versions out, that is where you will go…. it was put all in one place for Wineskin Lite, which is NOT done, this is just a full Wineskin self-contained wrapper…. just got some preliminary support for Lite in there.
This does work now on 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6… need help testing it on all 3… if you dont mind taking a new copy of the wrapper and trying every little thing you can think of and reporting back issues in the Bug Reports thread.
Xquartz Fullscreen mode has been added in as usable! It isn’t the best, but its all Xquartz has. You can choose if you want the wrapper to launch in fullscreen mode, and what resolution to run in fullscreen mode. Drawbacks… it changes global resolution, because its not a true fullscreen mode. If you switch to other apps while using a lower res here, all of OSX will be in the lower resolution. Software running inside of Wineskin will have no control over being fullscreen or windowed, or changing resolutions. This is all limited by Xquartz which does NOT support RANDR fully like most X11 builds…. sadly its the best option still for running X11 on OSX. I recommend usually using the normal rootless mode.. unless you have a specific game that runs better in fullscreen at a lower resolution, and you arent gong to multitask while playing… if you do run fullscreen I suggest using the “do not change” option for resolutions, if the resolution you normally run is ok for the game.
This is an Open Source build. All code I have written in here is in Bash, so you can easily open up the bash scripts and see them or modify them. They are under the LGPL, so if you make modifications, per the license, please release those modifications back out in case they can benefit others. If you find a problem and you fix the code, please let me have the fix so I can put it up in the official downloads! WSReso is written in C++. Its mostly code I found on the internet that didn’t list any license requirements and I do not know who wrote it mostly. Its just a simple app that lets you change OSX resolution via command line, so the bash scripts use it for helping change resolutions for fullscreen mode. Being LGPL, over GPL, it is legal for use in officially sold products, as long as the rest of LGPL is used. I did this just in case some company does end up wanting to use it to make official ports of software to Macs, but they still have to leave it mostly intact and give credit to Wineskin, they cant just steal the code legally.
I think this version is working really good, I just need more help finding bugs or things I’ve overlooked that needs to be added!
I have many Wine versions available. You should only have to change out the folders in the different Wine versions download, with the ones in the WineskinEngine/Wine folder.
Please browse through the new manual I wrote with it… but I believe its rather simple to figure out how to use. If anyone wants to write some better documentation, or demo videos, please let me know!
Wineskin RC4 Released Forum Posting
Well, its nice if people actually register on the forums.. its free… then you can get access to everything, including being able to tell me about bugs, or get support, or whatever…
but yeah, I can put up a link to downloads on the blog as well.
Thanks so much. The full screen does not work with the games I tried but, it’s still nice to have a new version.
fullscreen will work better by default in RC5…
in RC4 you can go in winecfg and tell it to emulate a virtual desktop… then fullscreen will work better. You can’t actually see the virtual desktop, but it changes how Xquartz handles it. RC5 does this automatically for you on anything thats fullscreen…. hopefully I’ll have all the RC5 stuff finished up soon.
