About my work

Welcome to my personal porting blog!
Here you will find all of my custom game ports that I created over the past few months in one place.

I’ve been a dedicated Mac gamer for many years now and I had hoped that with Apples Intel switch, Mac users would finally be able to enjoy more native games being ported over from Windows to Mac OS X – however, after some time and some broken promises it was clear that this was not going to happen.
In fact, official releases from porting companies have instead dropped drastically which is kinda unfortunate.

“Serious” gaming on the Mac seems to have become somewhat impossible – on the one hand, due to Apple’s unwillingness to support the Macintosh as a gaming platform and on the other hand because of their persisting platform and OS-switches which result in various interface, compatibility and performance issues, which mostly affect the 3D-graphics department and have caused many professional game developers to classify the Macintosh as not suitable for graphically intense games.

So the average Mac gamer is basically left with Casual- and iPhone games that do not require a lot of hardware resources to run but are of course no food for “real” gamers.

However, with new wrapper based Wine solutions being able to run on Intel processor Macs, additional possibilites for porting games to the Mac OS have emerged.

The three technologies most suitable for this task are Transgaming’s Cider, Codeweaver’s CrossOver and doh123’s Wineskin.

Cider for example has some great potential – its built in quartz driver makes ported games feel pretty native – even though they aren’t, but unfortunately Transgaming decided to make Cider closed source and therefore claims all it’s benefits for themselves instead of contributing to the open source Wine project.

Making use of this technology for so-called “professional” ports (which they are not really) and charging money for every single one of them is the wrong way to go in my humble opinion.

I feel kinda obliged to help unfold the true potential of these tools for Mac gaming by making use of them in my ports.
My goal is nothing less than to revive gaming on the Macintosh OS by providing a constant stream of high-quality, professional-looking and completely standalone game ports that work out of the box with no installation necessary.

hope you enjoy my work ;)

Did you plan to port FALLOUT 3? Why Cider port always runs better?
