Star Trek Online
STATUS: Green

First version released on 2/2/2010, I played the beta and head-start and made a working port before the game was released! Maybe its the first game we have here with a decent port released before the game is even out?

But whats to say.. its Star Trek, and its a MMORPG... you create your character, you have bridge crews and skills... space missions and battles.. ground missions and battles... its all a lot of fun!  Set many years after the film Nemesis... the borg are back... the Klingons are at war with the Feds and have dramatically increased in the size of their empire...

For information see link
http://www.startrekonline.com

Made with Wineskin 2.0.

System Requirements:
    x86 Mac
    Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.6
    Dual Core processor
    1gb+ Ram
    Nvidia or ATI graphics card
Intel GMA 950 and X3100 do NOT work.
    active STO account.

For downloads, please see the Forum posting on the Official STO forums
its too hard when making new versions to keep up with changing stuff here too.

Directions for installation are pretty standard for Wineskin... extra directions come with the download.

latest wrapper version is  "unofficial Mac Version 1.3.1"
Its made with Wineskin 2.0 RC3, fully self contained.

Give a big thanks to the makers... Cryptic Studios.... they actually went in and put a patch in the game to make it proper detect Wine and fixed the Wine graphics issues so that it runs better!  Always nice when a game makers actually helps us run games.

Instructions look a little complicated, but i'm sure it's not as complicated as you've made it sound  :-)
This is amazing doh123 is the game subscription based?

yep.. its a standard online subscription MMORPG.

I know the directions look a little odd.. its copy and pasted from what I put up on the official STO forums.. where most people have never used a wrapper before.

I'm updating my post for a new version I released...
be that as it may, world of warcraft was subscription based as well, but they made free private servers to play on, so cant they do the same for star trek?

"they" are people on their own reproducing the servers... the makers of WoW never made anything like that.

some day int he future when someone (maybe someone here?) decides to try to make a working STO server... then you mght find it free.
but the answer is yes im sure its possible in some time depending on how popular the game is.

Btw Doh is there a trial?

not yet.. but their last game which uses the same engine, Champions Online, had a free trial available a few months after release.  Since release was today, there may be on in a few months.  Right now they are having to add more hardware to the server farm because they already have greatly exceeded expectations on the amount of players.... so until thats all stabilized, I do not see a free trial anytime soon.

also in regards to Champions Online... it does have a free trail, and if anyone feels like making a port, you could modify this wrapper to do it... as someone on the forums already said they used it to run Champions Online and it worked as well.... I just haven't felt like making a wrapper customized for it, since I don;t care about the game much.

ALSO:  Just updated the first post with new info about a new version of the wrapper I put up... Beta 3.1.  all info under this will be regards to the Beta 3.1 wrapper....

beta 3.1 works right with the installer from download or retail disc... it auto switches resolutions right... AA is functional (well it thinks it is, but it doesn't really work) and used as a fix for the graphics bug, instead of the old /renderscale PITA fix....
updated post about Beta4....

much simpler to use...

Cryptic Studios even patched STO with proper WIne detection and fixed the graphics smearing bug!
Kudos to you doh and kudos to Cryptic!

Thanks for this! This is what led me to learn of WineSkin and this site...it works brilliantly!
So Champions Online can be run from this wrapper?
Any clues on how I could get that to work?

should be basically the same, but you can use WineskinSettings.app to change the main exe over to the CO one...
I tried just now to install via download and it gets stuck on directx install
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

it doesn't get stuck more than likely... I know running an install that takes 15 minutes on Windows has issues in Wine for STo and take it like 1.5 hours to install...

its much faster if you just copy the installed copy over from Windows.
thats not really possible. I haven't got a windows partition and my dvd drive is busted.
I'll let it run for a while if you think that'll work.
It installs the exe fine, but once you run it it goes to black with the X mouse.
Thanks for the help btw
