This is a freeware game.

I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic loveletter to the halcyon days of early American videogaming, packaged as a nail-rippingly difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plantlife and puzzle pieces.

Using a multiroute layout not unlike a Metroidvania, the game grants a degree of deadly exploration, without those extraneous upgades meant to make life easier. The game provides players with a choice in terms of their deathrate, thanks to a variable difficulty setting that changes the number of save points from frequent to nonexistent. IWBTG is open to all players; knowledge of videogaming history is optional, and may not help against the frequently ironic and always sadistic deathtraps located herein. And so, the question is left up to you...

Do YOU have what it takes to be The Guy?

Yours seems to be doing the same thing mine is.

It launches, then it comes up with an error saying something like sdstart.exe (or something along those lines) fails to launch.

Have fun.

Did you download the wrapper or the port?

[EDIT]: I just tested both methods, and they are working fine. Make sure you have the CXZ Jade Engine installed.
I played through this just using wine on the exe back in the day.

It's fantastic. Definitely a whole lot of work to beat, but it's strangely rewarding... I'll give your port a try to see if it's a cleaner version. :)

Nice work!

I've tried both methods. It's always seems to be a problem with me. Wether opened with cxz, cider or wine itself, never works. Maybe it's my mac... Thanks for the try any way.

Also thinking about it,if you email Kayin (creator of IWBTG) he will upload it to his site for others to enjoy. I was talking to him about it when I decided to try it myself.
works perfect for me, i laughed so damn hard when the apple fell up

Its a good game but damn hard.

----------------

I wonder if it will decide to work on a fresh install of Mac OS X. stupid hardware issues need to restore, need to keep a backup.
I stand corrected, it seems to work now.

Must have been a problem with my old internal hard drive, its been replaced now things work how they are supposed to!

Well, tested, works. Tested my cider version, it works, tested it through wine, everything works. But yours seems to be clean, ill use yours for now.

Thankyou for this.
Doesn't work for me
Darn' ! :'(
Has anyone actually been able to get anywhere in this game?  It seems utterly impossible.
I dont know why but it gets super laggy for me. pretty much makes the game unplayable. Besides that everything works fine.
It IS impossible. With the lag, you can't quickly follow the spiked wall (one floor below when you start). The lag also affects the gun, too.
Maybe I should give it another go, with the FS version, as WineHQ recommends.
better version, fixed fps and working on Lion here:
