Wizardry 8 is the eighth and final title in the Wizardry series of computer role-playing games by Sir-Tech. It is also the third in the Dark Savant trilogy, which includes Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge and Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant. It was published in 2001 by Sir-Tech.  It is a first person view Roleplaying game where you create and have a whole party of adventurers, and the first Wizardry to come out originally for Windows (previous were DOS besides a Wizardry 7 remake).  It also has a 3D type world.

minimum System Requirements:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later
- CPU: x86 (Intel) Processor
- RAM: 1024 MB
- Video: hopefully it will work on anything... need feedback
- about 2GB of hard drive space when the game is fully installed

Known Issues:
- Movies are audio only, but not detrimental to the game, just listen to them.
- 3D setup program doesn't work, but its not needed.

Installation:
- double click the wrapper and hit OK to the error message
- use Wineskin installer from 3 CD's (or ISOs of them) using all default settings and install locations.
- you may have to reselect the proper CD locations each CD change using browse, but it will read all CDs.
- leave the exe file to run the default wiz8 exe file (if it messes up reset it to that file, select the right file back in the menu under Advanced->Wineskin Configuration tab)
- Quit out of the Wineskin.app

YOU MUST INSTALL TO THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY!!!
if you do not, the script that patches your install to work properly will not work!!  The game will NOT work!

if your using a different language, do not run the wrapper after installingâ€⦠it auto fixes itself using files for the US version.

Delete the folder
{wrapper}/Contents/Resources/patch files
to make sure the patch doesn't take place.
then find the correct NO CD hacks for your language version of the game to use

I just realized I screwed up and left the 3DVideo.CFG file out of the patch folder...

I'll stick it up by itself for download (throw it in the Wizardry 8 folder after everything is done) and add it in to the main download...

EDIT:  ok the download should have all the files now  :-)
Nicely done - it's good to see you porting some games again :D

I love RPGs.. mainly old school ones... and Wizardry was always good...

I hadn't ever played 8 so it seemed interesting, and I needed a few hour break from my classes... I'm taking way too many, but only a couple more weeks.  Basically taking whats considered 3 times a full time load  :-P I usually do school stuff, eat and sleep... constantly 24/7.  While working on stuff I stop time to time to check up on some websites or forums like this.
Good port! Works well on my Mac. System Specs:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3
MacBook White
2.4GHz intel Core 2 Duo
Intel GMA X3100 Chipset

Good luck to the rest of you, and thanks again!

I can't agree with you more! Old school RPGs really are the best, especially Wizardry. This is a great port, do you agree? :)
Hi guys.

Can't believe I finally get to play this again after all these years (and my disks still worked)!

I couldn't figure out how to run 3DSetup.exe but thanks to Sirtech not being idiots I was able to edit 3DVideo.CFG text file and change the resolution to 1280x1024 myself. Nice.

Thanks for your work on making this so easy.

Matt
Thanks so much. I've had the game for ever, finally can run it on a NEW computer. Love the PortingTeam!  :D
great thanks for brilliant work!
I can't download the file.  decompression failed
Many many thanks for this, all works very nicely.

Just a couple of things.

How do I get it to run in windowed mode, not the window mode when you press CMD + OPT +A where the window is locked into the top left of the desktop, but a window like any other.

I noticed some black grid lines running through the graphics on the Selecting characters screen, and in some other places but not in the central main game window. Can these be cured in the setting some how ?

Shame the cinematics do not work.

Now thinking of playing the three games starting with wizardry 6 :)

Can the characters be taken through from 6 to 7 to 8 if so how would this be done ?
Has anyone been able to download this lately? The download link takes to me a captcha that takes me to a page that doesn't seem to provide any download.
The download link still works fine... but it goes through linksave, which they can be jerks on actually finding the files with their pop ups and stuff.  I'll make it easier.
That did it! Thanks.
Hey doh123, thanks for your work on getting Wizardry 8 available!

I'm having trouble getting this to work here with Mac OS x 10.6.8.
I don't know too much about Wine and this is my first Mac too.

Any chance I could get some help here? REALLY loved this game and am itching to play it again!

Note: GoG now has Wizardry 8 available for mac!
I changed the renderer to DirectX7 from OpenGL in 3dVideo.cfg and the game runs better now (no weird glitches or black lines in menus). Does anyone have any idea how to get the videos to play? It must be possible since GOG did it.
