DVD Shrink is a versatile freeware tool for fitting a DVD-Video disc on a single DVDR disc.
DVD Shrink is capable of both re-authoring and re-encoding the movie. It features an intuitive user interface which makes it easy to choose what to keep, and what to lose.
DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.
Personal Notes:
DVDShrink is one of the most popular DVD Re-authoring and Compressing tools used on the windows platform.
The ported and tested version is 3.2.0.15 and is confirmed Snow Leopard compatible.
Known Issues:
- Video Preview doesn't work in the Re-Author mode when previewing individual video files. It may cause the program to hang, thus needing to close the app and reopen it. However, Video Preview works perfectly everywhere else
Installation:
- Drag & Drop to your Applications folder. That's it!

i have no idea to be honest. ive never done something like that
Thanks for the quick response playn. I store my ripped movies on a Mediasmart server and stream them through an old xbox with XBMC. I could rip the movies to my Mac HD and then copy them to the Server share, but I was trying to stream line the process a bit by ripping directly to the server file where i keep my movies .
Since I am new to porting, I was not sure that if once an app is ported wether it could reach shared (networked) folders. I will have a look at the save to options in DVDShrink to see if it allows me to get to the shares.
Again, thanks for your work on this.

good luck on it :)
If there's no save to option, you could try secondary clicking DVDShrink and clicking show package contents, then open contents and open winecfg (i think its called), then choose the Desktop Integration tab and change where the folders link to
i think i saw a network folder in there the other day. don't know if that will help or not but it should

Thanks, that sounds like a good place to start. Will give it a try when I get back to the house tonight.

Hey dude if you still need an answer you need to update links via CXEx
1. Open CXEx Central & click the misc Utilities tab
2. Click the 'view Upgrade Options' Button (in the misc Utilities Tab)
3. Click the 'Link Legacy Engines: CXEx -> CXZ' Button (and input OS admin password)
This should upgrade the older package to run with the new engines (You will need the CXEx Aquamarine engine installed) Detailed info found here

One question though, how would you copy or rip a movie directly to a network share using DVDShrink on a Mac?
Thanks,
