Vault 101 – Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you’ve ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.
Key Features:
Limitless Freedom! – Take in the sights and sounds of the vast Capital Wasteland! See the great monuments of the United States lying in post-apocalyptic ruin! You make the choices that define you and change the world. Just keep an eye on your Rad Meter!

Fantastic New Views! – The wizards at Vault-Tec have done it again! No longer constrained to just one view, experience the world from 1st or 3rd person perspective. Customize your view with the touch of a button!
The Power of Choice! – Feeling like a dastardly villain today, or a Good Samaritan? Pick a side or walk the line, as every situation can be dealt with in many different ways. Talk out your problems in a civilized fashion, or just flash your Plasma Rifle.
Blast ‘Em Away With V.A.T.S.! – Even the odds in combat with the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System for your Pip-Boy Model 3000! V.A.T.S. allows you to pause time in combat, target specific body parts on your target, queue up attacks, and let Vault-Tec take out your aggression for you. Rain death and destruction in an all-new cinematic presentation.
Mind-Blowing Artificial Intelligence! – At Vault-Tec, we realize that the key to reviving civilization after a global nuclear war is people. Our best minds pooled their efforts to produce an advanced version of Radiant AI, America’s First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.
Eye-Popping Prettiness!* – Witness the harsh realities of nuclear fallout rendered like never before in modern super-deluxe HD graphics. From the barren Wasteland, to the danger-filled offices and metro tunnels of DC, to the hideous rotten flesh of a mutant’s face.

Personal Notes:
This game was long overdue for an update and pained me especially hard because my backup for the wrapper was lost when MegaUpload was taken down. So with a bit of regret I have to admit that I was unable to recreate what I had done in older versions of wine with Fallout 3. Ideally this would have been updated to the newly released stable build 1.4, and in fact I was able to start the game without issues but it's unplayable due to mouse functions not working properly. So for now we are at a crossroads, waiting for either a patch for Wine or a fix for Wineskin (Wineskin fix is preferable due to ease of not having to patch Wine from source)
So go ahead and download this WS8 updated wrapper. I used the currently available F3 wrapper by Thanoulas and modified it quite a bit. I was getting a constant crash when trying to open the door to Vault 101 Atrium. After some rigging around with the registry and installing a couple of winetricks I was able to get this working like a charm on my system.
Currently installed engine is WS8DZWine1.3.12d, I'm not sure exactly what Wine tricks Thanoulas installed in the wrapper but the mouse no longer works with my WS8Wine1.3.18_F3 so I left his patched engine in there which works well (but neither as well as 1.4 would) If for some reason you change the engine of the wrapper you can find an archived copy of the Wineskin engine in the Contents folder of the wrapper (Right click and choose "Show package contents") Extract the engine and place it in the Contents > Frameworks folder.
Thanks to Thanoulas for using a file hoster other than MegaUpload when uploading his files
Thanks to clocknova for making my old (highly modified) wrapper available to me for testing
Testing System Specifications:
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Core Duo
2GB RAM
ATI X1600
128 MB VRAM
Known Issues:
The intro movie breaks and only a fraction of the screen works during the video. Press escape to continue on to the gameplay. The intro movie is the second youtube video below.
-Fixed - The movie now plays all the way through without any issues
When entering into the wasteland the FPS drop slightly. It seems that game play is much more responsive while indoors.
- Fixed - Although there is a still a minimal drop in frame rate it's not nearly as appearant as it was in previous wrappers.
A slight bit of weird lighting effect can be seen on water when using orm=backbuffer
- Fixed - This setting was used to improve frame rate while using VATS although there was an implemented fix for this in Wine 1.3.4, changed setting to default orm=fbo
Installation:
Download the wrapper from the first link in the list above
Install your own copy of Fallout 3 (GOTY or not, it doesn't matter)
Extract the wrapper from the archive
Right click on the wrapper and choose 'Show Package Contents"
Navigate to Contents > Resources > drive_c > Program Files > Bethesda Softworks > Fallout 3
Now navigate to your installed version
drag and drop the contents of the Fallout 3 install folder (atimgpud.dll to VeryHigh.ini) into the open folder of the wrapper
close the windows out and double click the Fallout 3.app to launch the game.
On first launch the Fallout Launcher should appear and give you a message that it is going to set system settings based on your rig. Click OK and allow it to do this. Now click on the options and reset the settings to an appropriate level for enjoyable gameplay. Example X1600 w/ 128MB vRAM gets set at medium, although this looks great performance takes a hit, in lowering the specs to low the performance is spot on. Higher end systems ned not worry about this step.
The Wineskin installer can be used to install the game but it may change the System.reg entries and the executable pathway may require to be changed.

What is "address 0xaddf7b (thread 003b)"? If I'm interpreting the logs correctly, that might be the problem.
I've googled the "Unhandled page fault on read access" error, it seems to be caused by different things, with many games.
- The game isn't cracked properly
- time machine backup is running at the same time (unlikely but check anyways)
- try updating graphic card drivers, adobe programs (air, flash, whatever ... )
- is the game patched to latest version (1.7) ?
- In Wineskin->Advanced->Configuration, check if you got the right "Windows EXE" (Fallout_Launcher.exe or Fallout.exe)

Hm, that might be it. Is there any way I could determine this?
- time machine backup is running at the same time (unlikely but check anyways)
No. I have Time Machine active, but its backups haven't coincided with my attempts to play the game.

Adobe is up to date as far as I know, but how do I update my graphics card drivers?

Yes.

I've got FalloutLauncher.exe, but that's what the .exe is called on my machine.

Crack: Re-apply the crack, try a different crack...
Video Card driver: apparently it should be always integrated with the standard apple software update, so there's nothing to do here...
You could also try to install the game on windows (bootcamp, or a different PC), to see of it works there.
If it works, then try to copy the cracked Windows installation into a (new) Wrapper. (After that, install MADfilter into the wrapper)
If not, then you most likely have corrupted installation files...

The copy I've got came pre-cracked. I suppose that I could try reinstalling it or finding a different copy, though.
Well, I suppose that I could try and find a copy of Windows, learn how to use bootcamp, learn how to use Windows enough to get that far, and then figure out how to delete Windows afterwards... That sounds rather extreme, though. And the nearest computer I could use that's already running Windows is a public machine twenty minutes away by car (which I do not have at the moment...).
If I had a convenient way to use Windows, though, yes, this would be a good test.
So... It looks like my best available options are waiting for DankoB (or someone else with the necessary knowledge) to show up, reinstalling, maybe using another copy of the wrapper instead of Kronenberg's package, and hoping that that works (which would be pretty quick and easy, but unfortunately I probably won't have time for it until tomorrow), or finding another copy of the game and hoping that that works.
In any case, thank you for trying so much to help.

when i try to load a save it says wine has encountered a serious problem and closes. idk what i've done wrong but i think it has to do with the mods i have maybe. i have fellout and marts mutant mod...
Well, I tried downloading another copy of the wrapper and using that to reinstall the game. After the installation, that wrapper wouldn't run the game at all, but that was just something I tried on the offchance. I moved the install, along with the folders MSBuild and Reference Assemblies, which I hadn't had in this wrapper before, to the old wrapper. I tried firing up the game... and I'm still getting pretty much exactly the same symptoms.

I have everything perfectly done and i can play until more or less megatron. The problem is when i want to exit the saloon, the game freezes with an error message from wine saying that Fallout 3.exe has had a serious problem and had to shut off. When i try to load any save, it immediately gives me the same error. sometimes i can load the save IN the saloon, but I can not leave it, as the game will crash with that error mesage.
i reinstalled it all again and started all over and same thing happened. i am playing on Low settings and everything...Please help me

Hi, does this work with a steam version of Fallout 3 GOTY, because i allready own the game, but my crappy windows laptop isnt good enough to run it.
Got this working pretty well for the start of the game but when I get to the vault 101 atrium door when you need to escape the game has the "Wine has encountered a serious problem..." and quits. I also can't load my saves before that point now and I get the same error when trying and have had to restart a new game a couple of times now. Is there any fixes for this?
I need some help. I ran the game for the first time, and it was in another language. I closed it and re-opened it, and it was in English, but I couldn't change any of the settings. Where can I find the .ini for the game?
EDIT: Dumb me. Found it in Documents > My Games

whenever i exit the vault 101 and go to the wastelands, the game crashes! Please help. This is an amazing wrapper and i really want to play it on my mac! Thanks!
I'm trying to play the Steam version of Fallout 3 GOTY. I was able to get Steam working through Winetricks, and I've installed the game. But whenever I try to launch the game, I'll come as far as the small screen Bethesda always uses when it determines your graphics settings. As soon as I hit 'Play', nothing happens. It'll just take me back to the Steam window.
For some reason though, the game worked fine on a test run yesterday, it's just now nothing is happening Anyone know why?

Oh, I hadn't even put that file inside the wrapper; I'd just used the .ax.
...And somehow not even noticed that the instructions that came with MADfilter existed. Yay me!
Okay, file in place, custom app created and run... Let's see if the game works.
