Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

Personal Notes:
Great game with an absolutely amazing story line and graphics.. even on low it looks fantastic!

Please note: Due to this being an extremely graphically demanding game, you need a high end computer to run this nicely on windows. So if you don't have a recent Mac, don't expect great speeds through Wine, and even if you play it on windows.

Walkthrough

Minimum System Requirements:
* Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
* DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
* 1GB RAM

Runs near flawlessly for me on the preset low (and even high) settings and with vsync ON (that disables 3D processes which in turn gives an fps boost)

Known Issues:
- Minor graphical flickering in menus and the loading screen
- Loading screen won't act like normal, but instead stays on the first frame. Voice over works fine though. (if it looks like Metro 2033 is frozen, it's not, just wait for it to load)

Installation:
Razor1911 Release with the SKIDROW update is Recommended If Using a Cracked Version.
(unzip the archive with 7zX)

Install Metro 2033 into the wrapper, crack and update it, Double Click and Play!
- Game runs best after a fresh restart, although this isn't needed but recommended for best experience.
[Optional] - A tip. For slight better performance in game, change the in game resolution to something else, and then change it back to what it was (1280x800 by default) the game will run more smooth then. Especially on the main menu!
[Optional] - This is my config file that gives me great fps and also great graphics. The changed controls are shift = duck and cmd/option = sprint.
open the Metro 2033.app (secondary click > show package contents) and navigate to "drive_c/users/Wineskin/Local Settings/Application Data/4A Games/Metro 2033/"
open the user.cfg file with TextEdit and replace everything in there with the code below (r_gi 1 might also help)

What's New in Version 1.2 (See full changelog)

  • - Support for Metro 2033 Update 2 which includes the new DLC maps.
  • - Started work on getting Benchmark to work. Will be done when DotNET Framework 3.5 is supported in WINE.

Great! Cannot wait to test it!!!

Btw you should use a linksave container.
Well done sir.
After expanding the file I get a non functioning app, the icon is crossed out. Doing a show pkg gets we the working wine app. inside the non working app. Removing that to the desktop and trying to install Metro from the .ISO crashes the Metro installer.

Will continue to explore the situation.
On my mac the install runs great. Expanding the file give me an Metro2033.app with nice icon. I tried to use the razor installer, but it still reports that the game was already install. So i created a new wrapper installed and patched it as recommend and moved the metro 2033 folder to playn's wrapper. I started it, the videos and the menu were very laggy. I have not tested the game itself. But for me it appers to work. Maybe you should use another decompressor tcrown.
yep the menu is laggy, couldnt find a fix for that, but the game runs a lot better then the menu does :p i can guarentee that
but the videos run fine for me, they run the best out of the whole game. thats weird
edit: menu runs fine if you let it load fully (wait 10-15seconds)

ill have a look at linksave, but last time i tried to use it i got confused :/
i recommend using 7zx to uncompress

just a tip, dont use the wrappers installer. it didnt work for me either. however crossover installed it great.. i never tried with a fresh wrapper, so i guess you can use the above method from drakulix as well (install from another wrapper and then drag and drop)
ill update the top post with that info

p.s. make sure you update as well guys. gave me a good fps gain
The menu has a working mouse! But it is faster than mine aswell, but it still lags.

The game itself, the fps is more than mine, which im thankful for. But it still really slow, even on lowest settings. It is playable in some spots, if your by yourself, and not fighting anything.

But not bad! Much much better than mine playn!
so would you guys say that this new Port deserves the green rating?
For use on an Nvidia card, definitely.

The game is a graphics-intensive game, even on low. It is to be expected that it will run slow, even on most of our hardware setups running through a virtual environment/emulator (WINE Is Not an Emulator)

Id say keep it as Green, but it is entirely your choice Doc!
Im give this a try and report back with results with an macbook pro late 08 model nvidia 9600m its nice to see my work finished after i gave up after countless tries
yeah dont expect a perfect fps range, itll be the minimal playing but still playable :p

@boombox, how slow is it? moving around for me either by myself or with a whole bunch of characters and enemies on screen is fine at roughly 25fps, and when shots are fired theres maybe a few fps drop to about 20fps. lowest Ive seen is 18 -- and that's in very intense fighting scenes

theres probably more i can do to the wrapper, so ill have a look at it tomorrow
playn, it seems to be around the 16fps mark on the best. On lowest graphics.

It still faster than mine, LOL
lol well i guess its gonna differ from hardware to hardware. im gonna redo the wrapper from the ground up once the WS4 custom build environment is up, once thats done ill try and tweak the wrapper more again. hopefully i can find something good to change around

if you want, i can give you a more graphic-less config file.. but it looks really ugly. cs1.6 looks better then it lol

anyone else tried?
at first big thanks to anyone who worked on the Port!
it works on the new macbook pro 15", but after a short time the fps reduces much

I'm not into those things with these wine wrappers, but isn't there a possibility to run the game with DX 10 because, when i tried it with bootcamp it worked with DX 10 ways smoother and faster then with DX 9 (which is displayed in my game settings)... isn't there any chance to run it with a Cider Wrapper?

Wine's DX10 support is coming along, but far from being useful.. your pretty much stuck with DX9.

Cider is closed source so no idea... but I've not yet seen a version that runs DX10 really.
i just thought it would have a better performance because Call of Duty 6, which is a Cider Port worked really awesome for me with nice resolution and graphic, running smooth
But i don't know if it works with DX 9 or DX 10 :P

anyways thanks ;)
