Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.
In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.
The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.
You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.
Personal Notes:
Great game with an absolutely amazing story line and graphics.. even on low it looks fantastic!
Please note: Due to this being an extremely graphically demanding game, you need a high end computer to run this nicely on windows. So if you don't have a recent Mac, don't expect great speeds through Wine, and even if you play it on windows.

Walkthrough
Minimum System Requirements:
* Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
* DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
* 1GB RAM
Runs near flawlessly for me on the preset low (and even high) settings and with vsync ON (that disables 3D processes which in turn gives an fps boost)
Known Issues:
- Minor graphical flickering in menus and the loading screen
- Loading screen won't act like normal, but instead stays on the first frame. Voice over works fine though. (if it looks like Metro 2033 is frozen, it's not, just wait for it to load)
Installation:
Razor1911 Release with the SKIDROW update is Recommended If Using a Cracked Version.
(unzip the archive with 7zX)
Install Metro 2033 into the wrapper, crack and update it, Double Click and Play!
- Game runs best after a fresh restart, although this isn't needed but recommended for best experience.
[Optional] - A tip. For slight better performance in game, change the in game resolution to something else, and then change it back to what it was (1280x800 by default) the game will run more smooth then. Especially on the main menu!
[Optional] - This is my config file that gives me great fps and also great graphics. The changed controls are shift = duck and cmd/option = sprint.
open the Metro 2033.app (secondary click > show package contents) and navigate to "drive_c/users/Wineskin/Local Settings/Application Data/4A Games/Metro 2033/"
open the user.cfg file with TextEdit and replace everything in there with the code below (r_gi 1 might also help)
(If you're going to put this on other sites, please give the proper credits. Just leave this section in. Thank-you)

Hi there,
I'm very new to this Stuff, but till now I've got everything to run.
But my Mac don't seem to like either the Game itself or the Wrapper...
So, just to double check:
The Wrapper is ready for playing and just needs the Game to be installed (so no Steam, PysX, or other Stuff), right?
Well, I get the Game to run actually, but after the nVidia, THQ,... Videos the Game crashes/freezes after this Metro2033 Splash-Screen.
On (I think it was on Site 2) I saw something about that (removing the Spacebar in Title and that Stuff via WineTricks) but didn't work.
I already tried this with a clean Install of Razor-Release and with an afterwards Skidrow-Patched Install - both with the same Result.
Anything else I could try?
PS: I wanted to try the old Wrapper but that ones offline xD

Yeah I've seen that problem a few times, it should of been fixed in the wrappers but some people still got it somehow. Probably caused during installation.
I've posted a few fixes throughout the thread (one up the top of this page as well). If those don't work, then try installing Metro 2033 into an empty Wineskin wrapper (if you don't have Wineskin Winery, use this), then find the Metro 2033 directory inside the wrappers Program Files folder, and drag that into the Program Files folder of a freshly downloaded wrapper from the first post in this thread.

Thank you for the fast Answer.
Installing via an empty Wrapper worked on the secon try then, so I can at least get into the Game now.
I tried the first Minutes of the Game then but had not the best performance (even on low) especially as this huge group of mutants attacks in the end of the tutorial...
Can I tweak anything in the cfg or something to increase the performance? (i tried, but the things in there are very irritating for me - hadn't done such a thing for years)

I've got a config that worked good for me up in the first post, it's using spoiler tags so just click show. Other then that, restarting your Mac right before you play usually helps a fair bit with performance. It's a hassle but works at least.
Also the first level is pretty slow compared to the rest as far as I remember. It should get better on the second or third level, at least it did for me.

I have an inkling, try changing the config settings, usually in cfg file format, to change the directory where to save, also if you are an admin, changes to documents or applications may require a password but the app doesn't know that so it might prevent saves from being made
installation worked fine
load up the game...
static, graphics all over the place, black screen, plenty of audio though. Main menu appears and all i can see are the 'New game' 'options' 'credits' and 'quite' in letters but everything else are just jagged splashes of light and color.
I go into option and can see everything perfect.
Start a game and its the same, weird plaques of color on top of what is obviously the game (as in i managed to open the first gate). It seems to run dam nwell except for those spots that keep changing in the screen.
Ati Radeon HD 5750 here on a six month old iMac i7...

Won't be out until after CiderX 2.0 though.
i appreciate your work, im just a fan of the the team that brought us Shadow Of Chernobyl. Gonna keep the files in the background in the meanwhile, because behind the graphic corruption the game seems to play damn fine for me.
Hi,
I've been getting the before mentioned error where it freezes on opening at the Metro 2033 splash screen, I've fully updated it and cracked it using the SKIDROW crack(to the best of my knowledge) tried running physx, vcrun2005sp1 and xact in winetricks, and physx from the install file. I have also tried reinstalling using the intstaller tool.
I was wondering if you had any solutions?
Here is my error report if that helps:
Many thanks in advance

Are you on Metro 2033 update 1/2? Or the original non-updated release? If you want to use my wrapper update 2 you'll need to update Metro 2033 to Update 2. Or if I remember right, you can reverse the support (so it works with the non-updated Metro 2033) by opening winecfg through the wineskinsettings.app, and changing the last two dlls in the libraries list to their opposite options. Ex: if it's built-in, change it to native. If its native, change it to built-in.
I haven't tested Metro 2033 update 1 so either stay with the original (non-updated) or use update 2.
Just a side note, the problem is this line (obviously)
err:d3d_surface:surface_remove_pbo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
Which is apparently fixed in Wine 1.3.25. If you know how, you could swap in that engine and see how it goes.
