Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.
In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.
The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.
You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.
Personal Notes:
Great game with an absolutely amazing story line and graphics.. even on low it looks fantastic!
Please note: Due to this being an extremely graphically demanding game, you need a high end computer to run this nicely on windows. So if you don't have a recent Mac, don't expect great speeds through Wine, and even if you play it on windows.
Review
Walkthrough
Minimum System Requirements:
* Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
* DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
* 1GB RAM
Runs near flawlessly for me on the preset low (and even high) settings and with vsync ON (that disables 3D processes which in turn gives an fps boost)
Known Issues:
- Minor graphical flickering in menus and the loading screen
- Loading screen won't act like normal, but instead stays on the first frame. Voice over works fine though. (if it looks like Metro 2033 is frozen, it's not, just wait for it to load)
Installation:
Razor1911 Release with the SKIDROW update is Recommended If Using a Cracked Version.
(unzip the archive with 7zX)
Install Metro 2033 into the wrapper, crack and update it, Double Click and Play!
- Game runs best after a fresh restart, although this isn't needed but recommended for best experience.
[Optional] - A tip. For slight better performance in game, change the in game resolution to something else, and then change it back to what it was (1280x800 by default) the game will run more smooth then. Especially on the main menu!
[Optional] - This is my config file that gives me great fps and also great graphics. The changed controls are shift = duck and cmd/option = sprint.
open the Metro 2033.app (secondary click > show package contents) and navigate to "drive_c/users/Wineskin/Local Settings/Application Data/4A Games/Metro 2033/"
open the user.cfg file with TextEdit and replace everything in there with the code below (r_gi 1 might also help)
(If you're going to put this on other sites, please give the proper credits. Just leave this section in. Thank-you)

What's New in Version 1.2 (See full changelog)
- - Support for Metro 2033 Update 2 which includes the new DLC maps.
- - Started work on getting Benchmark to work. Will be done when DotNET Framework 3.5 is supported in WINE.
Using Global Illumination for improved a bit FPS... (on my mbp)

Which version of wine is this based off?
Running better with every version, but it is still a bit slow. (around the 25fps mark)
Maybe its your 512mb 330m card compared to my 256mb 9400M
How fast does it run on your machine? Im considering testing it on my friends, i7 330M

im not getting much better performance over the last version, at most 3-4fps, so im glad other people get a much better framerate boost then me :)
im hovering around 25fps too actually, but it doesnt dip too much anymore. in the heavy heavy outdoor fight scenes it goes to roughly 18fps for me. on lighter fight scenes it flows at around 25.
in doors i can reach 30fps but i havent tested in doors much at all
ill probably play around with the RAM some more because that should be where the problem is.. im hoping, since thats the easiest way to fix speed
i based this one off of CXG9.1.0. i had trouble with adding patches to it so there wasnt too much i could do in that area, but i think i know what to do with that now, so hopefully i can find some good patches.. mainly to fix the flickering. that's my target for now since i think besides RAM registry changes, there's not much i can do but wait for Wine to develop more (64bit support should definitely give a big fps boost)
and for some reason, even tho using builtin DLL's should give a bigger fps boost, i found that it actually dipped my fps by almost 10. so i took out those changes
also guys, make sure to play around with the Physx Tool. GPU will work better for some, while CPU will work better for others. (new iMac and Mac Pro owners, switch to the CPU)
note: in the last version i left my config in by accident, but took it out in this one. so you can try using my config above and see if you get an fps boost
p.s. i cant wait for dx10 support either!

so which dl link is the new wrapper? The one in the first post or the one five posts up? Not that it matters, my X1600 will never have the cohones to run this game
The one 6 posts up Danko.
Not sure if he has changed the one in the first post yet.
EDIT: Both the links are the same.

i got a strange problem: i have the savegames of the first wrapper in my documents folder as usual but it seems like the "new" game (with the new wrapper) isnt able to save anything... i played the first two chapters and as soon as i restartet the game i have to start from the beginning -.- does anyone got an idea how to fix it?

i dont got an idea for a reason i quit the game as normal with the menu not just shutting it down with the key combinations...
maybe its because i ran at first both versions of the game simultaneously.... is there a way to tell the game where to put the savegames?

i dont think you can. just by default it goes to documents > 4AGames
you can go into wineskin settings (within the wrapper) > advanced > wineskin tools > wine config > desktop integration and change where My Documents links to. that might solve it
