Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

Personal Notes:
Great game with an absolutely amazing story line and graphics.. even on low it looks fantastic!

Please note: Due to this being an extremely graphically demanding game, you need a high end computer to run this nicely on windows. So if you don't have a recent Mac, don't expect great speeds through Wine, and even if you play it on windows.

Walkthrough

Minimum System Requirements:
* Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
* DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
* 1GB RAM

Runs near flawlessly for me on the preset low (and even high) settings and with vsync ON (that disables 3D processes which in turn gives an fps boost)

Known Issues:
- Minor graphical flickering in menus and the loading screen
- Loading screen won't act like normal, but instead stays on the first frame. Voice over works fine though. (if it looks like Metro 2033 is frozen, it's not, just wait for it to load)

Installation:
Razor1911 Release with the SKIDROW update is Recommended If Using a Cracked Version.
(unzip the archive with 7zX)

Install Metro 2033 into the wrapper, crack and update it, Double Click and Play!
- Game runs best after a fresh restart, although this isn't needed but recommended for best experience.
[Optional] - A tip. For slight better performance in game, change the in game resolution to something else, and then change it back to what it was (1280x800 by default) the game will run more smooth then. Especially on the main menu!
[Optional] - This is my config file that gives me great fps and also great graphics. The changed controls are shift = duck and cmd/option = sprint.
open the Metro 2033.app (secondary click > show package contents) and navigate to "drive_c/users/Wineskin/Local Settings/Application Data/4A Games/Metro 2033/"
open the user.cfg file with TextEdit and replace everything in there with the code below (r_gi 1 might also help)

i installed it again in a fresh wrapper and i still end up with the same results... does this use xquartz.

assuming the game freezes on the part where it says "Metro 2033" and then flashes and stretches towards the screen, could you try this fix?

Remove any spaces in the "Metro 2033" title (so its Metro2033), Secondary click Metro2033 and click show package contents, navigate to winetricks and Install
- xact
- physx
ok so it installs fine and intro and main menu works fine but for some reason words are written wrong like the V in video is backwards and lots of words are like that not big issue. But when i start playing as soon as i get the weapon the games FPS drops incredibly to about 2fps UNPLAYABLE. I am using a macbook pro 08 model 9400m and RAZOR release

make sure your changing your graphics card to use the 9600. 9400 isnt made for anything intensive
and make sure settings are set to low with anisotropic filtering set to 4x
also try changing your resolution in game to something lower, then put it back to what it was (or leave it at the lower res, itll provide a slight fps improvement). itll make things smoother and a bit better. especially in the menu
weird about the backwards letters. not sure whats causing that but it could be solved by switching to the 9600. also make sure you updated to metro update 1 (i havent tried update 2 yet)
Just to let you guys know
I’ve gotten Update 2 to work great in my new wrapper thanks to some tweaking. I wont be releasing the new wrapper just yet though. Ill leave that until i get something major going on which should hopefully be soon. I have some ideas that will help me determine what the major slowdown issue is and I should be able to correct that or at least improve the performance even more!

I might also start gathering information from you guys different systems if you want to contribute. I’d like to find the bottleneck thats hitting the older systems (pre-2010).
Thats assuming everything goes to plan though… Which I have high hopes for… Gotta wait and see.
Can't wait for the new wrapper.

See how much better it runs on my slow-ass machine.
Since im having too much trouble getting Metro 2033 into CiderX, ill upload the new wineskin wrapper. Just a small update for now. The CiderX one when i get it working will be the big update ;) keep an eye out for it!

Changes in Wrapper Update 2
- Support for Metro 2033 Update 2 which includes the new DLC maps.
- Started work on getting Benchmark to work. Will be done when DotNET Framework 3.5 is supported in WINE.

Hey guys! Thnk you very much for your great ports!

I know i'm a bit late but i have a little problem installing metro 2033...
I0m trying to use the 'razor' version but it' impossible to install via INSTALLER FOR MAC or
in alternative through windows (on a pc..).

Basically i start razor installer anad after half a second it's says it's installed!!!!
i saw the folder in the 'installer files' but it is empty....
then i try the setup.exe and it start installing micft C++ and then it stops and says failed to run installscript.vdf

Can anyone help me? It's the third version i'm trying ... and i have tried with many different configurations :D :D :d
Try downloading Wineskin 2.0 @ http://portingteam.c...edirect.php?htt ... pdate.html
do any updates, download an engine (1.2.0) create a new wrapper, then
install metro 2033 into there, then once done installing, in the wrapper go to program files and drag & drop the metro 2033 installed directory into my wrapper. it'll work then
Thank you Plyn,
i'll give it a try, never done something like that before...
Will post 'update' if successful :D
Playn, i've tried with your instructions and these are the results: it's not working...

BUT
- if i start my new wineskin wrapper with game installed inside, it starts and i can see the logo but after a second it freezes and says 'wineskin error'
- if i put my new 'METRO 2033' folder on your wrapper it doesn't do nothing at all, neither the icon in dock, it just won't start

Any suggestions?
Thank you very much

Spera

ps. i followed all the 'razor install instructions' but was unable to install windowsLive
Playn - UPDATE 2  (if you can understand better what's happening here..)

I've tried all your process with another iso, and now i managed (on my new wrapper) to see the logo, then the graphics stuck and i can hear the sound until it arrives at the menu window but at that time it stops running and again 'wineskin error'.. := soo bad..

It should do something. If its not doing anything at all you can try restarting your Mac and trying to open it again.

Make sure you've read through the Newbie FAQ. Especially THIS thread.

If you still have trouble, and your using Wrapper Update 2, try using Wrapper Update 1.

Try using Wrapper Update 1 if your using 2 and vice versa.
Playn you're too fast answering :D :D  I really appreciate your help!!

I would try with the old wrapper but it says 'file not found',  maybe you can re-up it please?
