Rome: Total War (often abbreviated to RTW or Rome) is a critically acclaimed strategy game composed of both turn-based strategy and real-time tactics, in which the player fights historical and fictitious battles set during late Roman Republic and early Roman Empire (270 BC – AD 14). The game was developed by The Creative Assembly and released on 22 September 2004. It is the third game of The Creative Assembly's Total War series.Tested Game-Version: Rome Total War and Barbarian Invasion patch 1.6 (unofficial patch, but recommended nonetheless!)Turn-Based Strategy (TBS) with real time battles.

Review:
The best strategy guide out there!

Personal Notes:
This wrapper is for both Rome Total War and its expansion Barbarian Invasion. I know there is a port made of this game already, but the link has been down for me for as long as I can remember, plus, I'm only uploading the wrapper, not the full game.

Minimum System Requirements:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger / Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard / Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard- CPU: Intel Processor- RAM Memory : 512 MB- Video: nVidia 8xxx Series or AMD 3xxx or 4xxx Series Video Card recommended- about 3,4 GB Hard Drive Space required

Known Issues:
- The wrapper does not suffer from the "unaccessible lower third of the screen" problem, but scrolling down or right with the mouse (and rotating with the mouse pressed on the down or right portion of the screen) doesn't work. Use arrows / shortcut keys to do it.- CHANGE GAME RESOLUTION AT YOUR OWN RISK ! 1024x768x32 is the only full screen resolution that gives "nice" graphics and does not suffer from the inaccessible lower third of the screen issue (although pushing the mouse to the bottom or the right doesn't move/rotate the screen, as mentionned above). Windowed mode shouldn't pose that problem, though, but I can't get myself to play this game in a window. ;)

Installation:
- Copy the wrapper to your desired folder. Use Wineskin.app to install the game or drag and drop the game folder inside the wrapper.- You will have to rename folders and the game.exe to fit the exact game path, which is : Drive_c/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War/Rome Total War.exe- If you open the wrapper, you will find I also made a custom EXE for the Barbarian Invasions expansion. The correct path for the custom EXE (which you will also have to rename) is : Drive_c/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War/Rome Total War - Barbarian Invasion.exe . To use that custom EXE, create a shortcut of "Rome Total War - Barbarian Invasion.app" and put it on your desktop to be able to launch any one of those games without modifying anything all the time when switching between both.

Yeah, support Feral. Best Game ever made.
All the mods work on native too!

We have pretty much identical taste in games Scipio
I'm having a problem using this wrapper. I'll take you through my installation steps so you can see if I did anything wrong.

I click on the wrapper named "Rome Total War - copie" A wineskin box comes up and I click "Install Windows Software" The InstallShield Wizard comes up and I follow the prompts. On the install destination window I choose the default install path "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"  I click install then wait for the installation to finish. Once installation has finished a box comes up asking me if I would like to install "GameSpy Arcade" to play online. I select "No". A box comes up and installs "Microsoft DirectX". Once it is done it asks if I would like to create a shortcut on the windows desktop. I select "No". A window then comes up saying that I can't start the program until I restart the computer. I check the "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" box then click finish. A window then comes up and says "Please choose the main Executable that is supposed to run" I open the dropdown box and select "Rome Total War.exe" then click Ok. The Wineskin box then comes back up which has "Install Windows Software" "Set screen options" "Advanced" and "Quit" on it. I select quit then restart my computer. Once my computer has restarted, I click on the wrapper named "Rome Total War - copie" and the wineskin box comes up again.

Any help would be appreciated
I didn't specifically say it, but you should drag&drop the installed version inside this wrapper. If you don't have access to a Windows computer, just download, install and use this program to install the game. Then redownload my wrapper and open it, move the installed game inside and change the path of the installed game to fit what is shown in my first post (Drive_c/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War/Rome Total War.exe and, if you install the expansion Drive_c/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War/Rome Total War - Barbarian Invasion.exe) It should then run without any problem.
Hi there,
Thanks a lot for this. I was hoping to be able to play it on my mac too (yeah I know, there is a Feral one, and I'll get it eventually.

Sadly it doesn't seem to work for me.
When I launch the wrapper, the screen goes black with big red squares on it. Since the music goes on, i assume it's only a graphical issue. I'm unable to access the menu, but the game doesn't crash (Ihave to cmd+q).

For the facts:
I own a Rome total war gold from direct2drive. Here's the link: http://www.direct2dr...dition-Download
I copied the windows installation in the wrapper.
I tried to put on a mod, but it's just a skin for a unit and it works on my pc version. I'll try without the mod to keep you up to date. (Edit: I tried without the mod, it still doesn't work).

As for my mac setup, I have:
Mac OS X 10.7.1 (I think I pioneered this wrapper on Lion and It could be the problem)
Mac Book pro (2011) 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i5.
4Gb 1333Mhz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.

So, I hope those informations are useful and I thank you once again for what you have done this far.
Hmmm... I must say I'm quite clueless about your problem... You said you may have used it first with Lion? I've heard that Lion's compatibility with many wrappers is flawed, so I would suggest you redownload this wrapper directly on a non-Lion mac. Also, make sure your RTW game is updated (and you might want to use an unofficial patch too).

If it still doesn't work, maybe my wrapper will not work for you... But don't throw down the towel yet, I was able to make a cider wrapper using this cider wrapper. It works perfectly, but offers a graphical glitch you might not like : water colour is greeny and oily. You might not appreciate it... but it should work, in last resort.
Hi there,
I'm sorry I couldn't try things before today.

So i tried to update MAC OS X (can't hurt).
I tried the unofficial patch for Rome Total War (it works neat on my PC)
But the graphical problem still appear on my mac.

I haven't been able to try to redownload the wrapper on a non lion OSX... but i'm not sure to understand how this could alter the wrapper. It's incompatibiity at the game launch, isn't it?

I'm downloading the cider wrapper, I'm going to try figuring it out.

I'll edit this message to keep you informed.

Still, thanks so far.

Edit1:
Errrh,
Ive tried the cider wrapper. I put the game files in the right place: "
Cider 379.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files"

And i modify the info.pflist file with:

	CFBundleDevelopmentRegion
	English
	CFBundleExecutable
	cider
	CFBundleGetInfoString
Cider 5.3 Mac experimental © TransGaming Technologies Inc. 2006
	CFBundleIconFile
	cidericon.icns
	CFBundleIdentifier
	com.transgaming.cider
	CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion
	1.0
	CFBundleName
	Cider
	CFBundlePackageType
	APPL
	CFBundleShortVersionString
	5.3 Mac
	CFBundleSignature
	CIDR
	CFBundleVersion
	1
	CedegaGameDir
	C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War
	CedegaGameName
	c:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe
	LSMinimumSystemVersion
	10.4.8
	NSMainNibFile
	MainMenu
	PrefsFolderName
	Rome - Total War

But it won't launch, am I doing something wrong?

Edit2:
I'm also trying this wrapper to see if anything else happen.
http://forum.porting...php?f=97&t=8818
If the path you gave for the cider wrapper is indeed the one of your game, then no, you did nothing wrong... and if it's not working, then it's strange!

As for the Lion thing, I thought you tried to run the wrapper first with Lion (I understood this from the use of "pioneered"), so I thought it could have modified something, but if you only downloaded it with a Lion machine and transferred it to a Leopard one without launching it, I don't think it could have corrupted the file...

So, somehow, I think your problem relates to a difference between your game directory and my game directory, because it seems to launch correctly, but some files (progress bar, accessing menus and such) can't be found or can't be launched properly from this wrapper. Don't forget this wrapper was made around my version of the game, which is Vanilla RTW + Vanilla BI + patches, so it *may* be where the problem lies.

I'm not too fond of this solution, but try installing the file in a conventionnal way (Wineskin.app => Install Windows Software => Your install file/folder for RTW).) It might change a thing or two in the Registry or elsewhere... Don't forget to change the .exe's name to the ones I provided above. And it's better than the alternative solution, which would be to compare our folders and Registry and let you create the one(s) you might be missing...
Scipio - thanks dude!

very awesome, love being able to play one of my fave old games on my fave laptop.

took me a few dozen reads of your post to realize i had to RENAME my .exe to what you put
versus RomeTW.exe, then i had to get the no-cd crack to 1.5 from Free Info Society for
it to load 100%, but now it's working!

Great job man, thanks.
Glad you like it!

Sorry if it wasn't clear in my original post that you had to rename the .exe, I will change it right away!
Hi there,
I'm sorry for having not given sign of life up to now. I had exams and stuff,
I'm going to try again to make it work on lion.

I'll let you know if I happen to make anything happen.

Thanks for your wok,
Silgi
I am having problems installing the game using the wrapper, the problem is that during installation it asks for CD2 and although I have CD2 device injected on my mac it keeps telling me that it can't find CD2. Although I am guessing this is a simple problem I just can't seem to find a way for wineskin to find CD2 device or CD3 device.

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks
You should try devilhunter's Installer and move the installed files into the RTW wrapper.
thanks man :)
