Game Description:
Wing Commander is a video game media franchise consisting of space combat simulation computer games from Origin Systems, Inc., an animated television series, a feature film, a collectible card game, a series of novels, and action figures. The franchise originated in 1990 with the release of Wing Commander, a groundbreaking space combat simulation computer game.

Wing Commander Saga is a game created by fans of the series and picks up right before Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger and ends with the conclusion of the Kilrathi war. Like the Ultima Series many community games have been made but rarely do they ever get completed. However, the Wing Commander Saga first part, The Darkest Dawn, launched on March 22, 2012.

Personal Notes:
Their site says they will release a Mac OS X Port (Native? I would guess not?) - sometime in the future this is here for those who wish to play it now. And may be obsolete soon. Please support the guys over there as this project was a labour of love for them over several years (a decade). If you like the Wing Commander games the frst few have been released over at gog.com please buy them.

Plot:
The conflict between Earth and Kilrah is drawing to a close, and the Terran Confederation is not winning. Humanity's only hope lies in a desperate plan that will require even idealistic young fighter pilots to stretch themselves beyond all imagination. It's the end of the world, and you have a front row seat.

Raw emotion, realistic characters, a hard look at the devastation of war, and intense large-scale space combat action await you as you assume the role of 2nd Lt. David "Sandman" Markham. Twists of fate will throw you out of your dull backwater assignment and right into the hottest spots of the most devastating war in history.

What's New in Version 1.1 (See full changelog)

  • 1.0 - Original upload.
  • 1.1 - Re-upload fixed issue where launcher was not working. Originally meant to upload this version however added the incorrect one.

Uploaded - new correct version with working launcher. Note I have this game also working in CiderX Cider 5290 - if anyone wants it.
Good to know game works under cider as I have been having joystick issues with wine, (no joystick)  They are suppose to make a native port as FS2O, inwhich the game is made, can be compiled under MacOSX. Hopefully will be out soon.
I'm having issues with CiderX which I'm sure are CXex related.  Could I have your ciderx wrapper?  I don't need the game files themselves. So that should save you the 3.5 gigs.
I can add it on the weekend, sure.

I find it to buggy to upload, sorry.  Try Gamepad companion for your joystick - perhaps.
yup already done, oh well.
What is the proper method to find and install the game files please?
Thanks!
The Mac build is being tested and will be released soon, you can find more info here;
http://www.hard-ligh....php?board=46.0
The port files are no longer available on MediaFire.
Not available
Re-upload the file on this date.

Don't know if you'll ever read this, anyway here is the cause of your (and mine and of many others silent users too) problem:

01. The Cause

The error comes because the TEMP directory (which installer uses during the installation) is «hard coded» into the windows/wine registry for the user who created the wrapper (in this case leswavrychuck aka waves)

02. The Solution

a. Double click the wrapper
b. In the pop-up window select: Advanced --> Tools --> Register Editor (regedit) ... At this point regedit will open
c. Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Environment and delete both the TEMP as well as the TMP keys (right mouse button over each one of them --> Delete)
d. Close the regedit window and click DONE in the wrapper pop-up window
e. Once in the main wrapper window click on Install Windows Software, select "darkest-dawn-setup.exe" and click Choose
f. Now you can go for a coffee and when you come back the game will be installed waiting for you to tell him if you want to install OpenAL or not
--> Say 'no' (i.e. do not check the check box) because OpenAL is already installed in the wrapper.
g. Select «/Program Files/Wing Commander Saga/Wing Commander Saga.exe» as game's executable and Quit the wrapper
h. ENJOY THE GAME!! ;-)

Be aware that once installed the wrapper weights 8,23Gb!
Hope this helps you and anyone that comes here with the same problem too.

How do I combine both parts? I have downloaded the files but if I double click one I get an error as no application can read the file. What am I missing?

You can do it with Keka free unarchive tool (http://www.kekaosx.com/en/):

01. Right Mouse Clik on WCSagafix.7z.001 --> Open with Keka (don't worry it will unarchive both parts despite you selected only the first one)
02. After a while you'll get WCSagafix.dmg
03. Open it and there you'll find manual.pdf and Wing Commander Saga.app
04. Copy both files to any folder you want ...
05. ... and If you already have the game contents install the game as usual (following the steps above in my later post if you get errors when you run it).

Hope this helps and you can enjoy the game ...
this wrapper doesn't work anymore. setup does and launcher does run, but not game itself.
current wineskin wrapper does work, but only without sound.
