Fallout is a role-playing game open world video game produced by Tim Cain, developed and published by Interplay in 1997. The game has a post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic setting in the mid-22nd century, featuring an alternate history which deviates some time after World War II, where technology, politics and culture followed a different course.
The game is sometimes considered to be an unofficial sequel to the 1987 CRPG Wasteland, but it could not use that title as Electronic Arts held the rights to it; and, except for minor references, the games are set in separate universes. It was also intended to use Steve Jackson Games' GURPS system, but that deal fell through due to the excessive amounts of violence and gore included in the game, forcing Black Isle to change the already implemented GURPS system to the internally developed SPECIAL system.
Personal Notes:
Enjoy this one guys! It was a pain to port because of the (as it is known on the Internet) "rainbow lines" glitch.
My System Specs:
My System Specs:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
- CPU: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

None! Works ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS! :D
Installation:
For the Steam version:

1. Right click the .app -> Show Package Contents then open the Wineskin app.
2. Select 'Advanced' then 'Tools'
3. Select 'winetricks' then 'steam'
4. Allow it to install, then sign into Steam
5. Download the game from steam
6. GO IN STEAM PREFERENCES AND CLICK 'DISABLE IN-GAME COMMUNITY! YOUR GAME WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DON'T DO THIS!
7. Play!
For the GOG version/a pirated version (come on, guys, support Interplay! Buy it on Steam or GOG!)
1. Right click the .app -> Show Package Contents then open the Wineskin app.
2. Click 'Install Windows Software'.
3. If pirated: Mount the .iso (use Toast if you have problems) If GOG.com: Select the .exe
4. Let it load. (Choose HUMONGOUS installation if prompted.)
5. Select the FALLOUT.exe in the window that pops up afterwards.
6. Play!

Starts well enough but I was wondering how to play it in a window and change the resolution? There may be quite an easy answer but I'm not incredibly knowledgeable with ports. Edit: Sorry, got it working in a window literally a minute after posting this, thanks for the ports!

I have the same problem.  Any ideas?  I'm on a 2.3 i7  2011 Macbook Pro with 8 gigs of ram.   OS 10.7.3.  Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
Anyone figured out how to reduce the "lag" on mouse cursor?
I have set the speed to maximum in System Preferences and in the game itself but still, it's not very smooth. It is playable but it would be more enjoyable if the cursored moved more softly (but this happens when hovering over the game screen, in menus etc. its responsive as it should be).

If anyone has fix for that I'd appreciate it - I use magic mouse from Apple.
It says I have some limited size drivers that are too small for the humongous install. Is there a way to fix that?
I'm having the disk space problem too. It has a selection of extremely small drives (largest being 117MB) and no way to do the humongous install.

EDIT: Okay, I just bypassed it by performing the humongous installation in Windows via Boot Camp, then copied the installed folder into Fallout.app's Program Files and using Advanced to set its location to the falloutw.exe. That solved the problem of installing.

Only, now when I try to start it, I get "Not enough free hard disk space. Fallout requires at least 20.0 megabytes of free hard disk space."

Any ideas?

EDIT 2: Okay, nevermind, now it just suddenly started working on its own.
when I go to Run steam.bat what do I open it with because it wont open with any of my programs
I am having difficulties installing this: keeps saying "oops, executable not found" (I use the GOG file)...

any help??

thanks!

Ive got Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed

Thanks Mate

I have that problem when installing that it does not find the the executable file....

Every time I run the installer this window pops up (GOG version)

"No new executables found!

Maybe the installer failed...?"

For me the same: I downloaded the wrapper, updated it (twice!), install the game ("show contents -> Wine")

Error>

"File not found" (Seems to be an X11 error) and then I get the "Oops" message...
It doesn't work for me. I use GOG-version. It installs but when I run it, I just get a black screen.
I have lion, intel i7, 8 GB RAM, intel HD graphics 4000.

Any ideas?
You can buy it for Mac at gog.com for 6 dollars!!!
does IT have mouse lag?
I don't play with a mouse but a touchpad. Didn't notice any lag. Just played for an hour or so.
I got that same message when I used the Gog.com downloader. Try downloading it with your browser instead.
I followed all the steps, ran wineskin and logged into steam to buy the game, got it all downloaded. When I try to install it it fails and I look in the steam library and it says "Fallout is not available on your current platform." Did I do something wrong? I have mountain lion and installed x11, but still no joy.

Also, when I tell winetricks to run steam i get this:
