Application Description:
WinAce is an archiving program for Windows with its own "ACE" compressed archive format and built-in support for other common archive formats types such as ZIP, RAR and CAB. They also offer a freeware (but not free software) command-line decompression (including listing and testing) program called Unace for Mac OS X and Linux. WinAce peaked in popularity around 2000, but since fallen in popularity to WinRAR and Windows' built-in Zip functionality.
This is WinAce version 2.69.
WinAce features
WinAce is not just another archiving shell. With it's own powerful compression format ACE and built-in support for other popular compression types like ZIP, RAR and MS-CAB (to name a few), WinAce could actually become the only archiver you need.
The feature list of WinAce includes:
* compression of the following formats: ACE, ZIP, LHA, MS-CAB, JAVA JAR
* decompression of: ACE, ZIP, LHA, MS-CAB, RAR, ARC, ARJ, GZip, TAR, ZOO, JAR
* multi-volume (disk spanning) archives for ACE, ZIP, CAB
* self-extracting archives (SFX) for ACE and ZIP
* password encryption & recovery records for data protection
* Integrity check for ACE, ZIP, LHA, MS-CAB, RAR, ARC, ARJ, GZip, TAR, ZOO, JAR
* Repair functionality for ACE and ZIP archives
* Authenticity verification for ACE archives
* comment files in HTML, ANSI or ASCII for ACE- and ZIP-Archives
* full command line access (compatible with DOS ACE)
* detailed information for all archive types
* Quickviewer for graphic files, Word Documents, HTML pages and ASCII files
* full drag&drop support
* complete file-management (copying, moving and deleting of files and directories)
* optimization of existing archives
* access to your archives in Windows Explorer and via the context menu (shell extension)
* table of contents in the "Properties" panel of ACE and ZIP files (shell extension)
* ....and so much more!
Personal Notes:
Been meaning to add this for awhile - and will do so now because I had a pesky .Ace file that would not open with two different Macintosh applications.
I find it easier to create or unextract files either inside the wrapper WinAce directory, I created a file inside the Wrapper labeled 2 Ace for that purpose.
Minimum System Requirements:
- OS: Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 / Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard / Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard / Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
- CPU: Intel Core Processor
- RAM: 512MB
- Video: nVidia 8xxx Series or AMD 3xxx or 4xxx Series Video Card recommended
- Port Disk Space: 25MB
- Other: CXZ Ivory Engine must be installed (Or Convert to CXS Skin inside wrapper)
Known Issues:
None
Installation:
Mount the DMG and Drag the game to your App folder or wherever - click to run application.
