Grand Theft Auto (abbreviated as GTA) is a 1997 action-adventure open world video game created by games developer DMA Design (now Rockstar North) and published by BMG Interactive. The game allows the player to take on the role of a criminal who can roam freely around a big city. Various missions are set for completion, such as bank robberies, assassinations, and other crimes. It is the first in the Grand Theft Auto series that has thus far spanned ten standalone games and three expansion packs. The game was originally intended to be named "Race N Chase" and was nearly cancelled due to production issues. An original design document dated 22 March 1995 was posted online by Mike Dailly.

Personal Notes:

It works pretty well. Old game, I'm sure some people out there are looking for this. (I would imagine.)

This game is available as a free download at Rockstar (and Steam too, I think), but only for the PC. So I ported it. It was pretty easy-- The logs told me straight what needed to be installed.

My System Specs:

- OS: Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz

- RAM: 4GB

- Video: nVidia GeForce 320M 256MB

- Disk Space: 700 MB

Known Issues:

Doesn't run well in Lion by default, but It's said to work in Lion if you run it in windowed mode by pressing Cmd+ Alt+ A.

Installation:

Just download, mount the .dmg file and play! :D

Read the README! in the .dmg before doing anything else. It's got some important information.

Enjoy, and if you think the port is good, rate it 5 stars! :D Have fun!

Comment if it works on ATI/AMD, Intel GMA or Intel HD!

Haha, thank you!
If it works well you could rate it :)
This isn't compatible with Lion, just putting it out there. Basically, you see parts of your screen, such as the wallpaper, the dock, the folders you have. You could hear the sound but you cannot see the game itself.

Wow. Thanks.

:D I definitely intend to, when I have the time! :D
Hey so I'm new to this whole porting thing, and I figured I'd try to play a ready-to-use/complete freeware game port before moving on to using wrappers with my own game files. I have a couple questions if someone can help me out though:

1) The "Download Freeware Port" link on this page takes me to Media Fire, but why are there three zip files? Each one has a .dmg file I think, which one should I be using?

2) I went ahead and unzipped the "GTA.dmg.7z.001" file (while leaving the other two zipped), mounted the dmg, copied the entire "Grand Theft Auto" folder into my Applications folder, and tried to play it. The title screen of the game opened up just fine, but after I chose my character and actually tried to play the game it gave me an error message, saying that something could be wrong with either the game file or Wine, and then the game was forced to quit.

Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for the help :)

There being multiple zip files is because Mediafire has an upload limit of 200 MB so it's not possible to upload the whole game in one file. That's normal, you'll see it quite often, even for some wrappers.
You're supposed to download all of the files.

What program did you use to unzip it? Try to use 7zX-- it's freeware and it's what I used to compress and split the game.
And after that, read the Readme file included in the .dmg file. Like I said, it's got some important information. (Though I can't remember what I typed, something may help you)
Lastly, run the Grand Theft Auto settings first, before you start the game on its own.

Then run the game. If this still happens it might just be your mac on Leopard.
Thank you for your help

So did it work?
not working on amd
Are you sure? Did you try what was stated in the comments?
Works on Leopard (NVidia) but you have to press ctrl-alt-a or apple-alt-a to enter windowed mode; full screen mode is just glitches.
