Imperialism II: Age of Exploration is a turn-based strategy computer game developed by Frog City Software and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) in 1999. Imperialism II is a turn based 4X game, where you have to "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate" in order to achieve victory. The game however focus on the economic aspect by introducing the concepts of variable worker productivity, variable terrain productivity, labor allocation, resource allocation and logistics.

Nice work.  This was my first attempt to use wineskin too.  Thanks for bringing back a favorite.

Can you tell me how to upgrade Imperialism 2 to version 1.03 and then confirm that version is in fact running?

Thanks!

You're welcome :)

You should be able to use any patcher this way:

1. Locate your Imp2 wrapper
2. Right-click it and choose "Show package content"
3. Open the Wineskin application you'll find there
4. Click on "Install Software" and choose your patcher .exe
5. If it's done close everything and start Imp2

Any version of Imp2 should run without any problems.
Thanks much!  All done.
Does anyone know where can I find the pre-installed files?

At the location where you put them - if you have owned and installed the game before.

Otherwise follow the instructions of installing the game via Wineskin. (See my comment above for using installer files if you don't know how to do this.)

Got it.

Is there a way to run it in windowed mode with a big window? It either runs at fullscreen or as a very small window. I tried to change some resolution settings but it didn't change anything.

Don't change resolution within the game - nothing good comes out of this. If you want to change anything you need to open Wineskin.

Go to "Set Screen Options".
Then Choose "Rootless (Windowed)".
You can also choose the size of the window but don't take anything higher than 1024x768.
First of all thanks for the wrapper, installation worked fine although I got a runtime error during installation. (Mac OSX El Capitan, Macbook Air 2011)
I have one problem - I can start the game, but as soon as there is an overlay on the map, I can't close it (with the golden button in the top left corner of the overlay) So basically I can't play.. :-/
Any suggestions how to solve this?
Edit: also the other buttons on overlays don't work.

I found an issue with the mouse. Fixed that. Try the new version (1.4).
Wow, thanks for the swift reply! Unfortunately nothing changed, I still can't click any buttons or close the overlays..
But I found out, that there is a second app in the app switcher when I launch the wrapper, which is just a black window with a fail message, sth like "Assertion", D:\Epsilon\win_cd.cpp @407, _winCdPlay - any idea what's wrong? Thanks for your help!!!

I don't know this problem and can't reproduce it. My game runs fine. Install it again into the new wrapper. Maybe it will fix itself.

The error message you get is related to the sound issue described above. Don't use the sound and music settings in game. Maybe both problems are linked to each other. I don't know.
Ha I managed to fix it! :) For some reason the sound effects were activated by default. I set them to zero, now it works!
Thank you very very much! Because of people like you the Internet is a great place! Keep up the great work!

I'm happy to be of help.

Sad though you play without sound now. For me sound is working. But music not. Maybe this setup is gonna work for you as well?

Hey bbright.  Having the same problem as you! How did you deactivate the sound effects?

Though this might be troublesome (due to error messages) it seems that your only chance is to do it via the games preferences window. There is sadly no preferences file that could be edited outside of the game.
