Microsoft Flight Simulator X (abbreviated to FSX) is a 2006 flight simulation computer game originally developed and published by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows. it is the sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It is the tenth and last installment of Microsoft Flight Simulator series. It includes a graphics engine upgrade, having been marketed by Microsoft as the most important technological milestone in the series to date.
It is the first version in the flight simulator series to be released in October 2006 worldwide as a DVD-ROM. It is also the first version in the series to feature a new type of electronic distribution prevention using license keys, removing the need for the user to insert the game disc into their computer in order to run the software.
In December 2012, over six years after its release, the FSX multiplayer matchmaking system over the GameSpy network was discontinued.
On July 9 2014, Dovetail Games, the developers of RailWorks Train Simulator announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft and FSX (specifically the Deluxe and Acceleration editions combined) would be released on Steam in late 2014. They also announced that they will be developing and producing new flight software.

Personal Notes:
This port requires, that you know what Wineskin/Wine is and does and how to circumvent common bugs and problems within! As well as a basic understanding of Flight Simulator and where to find mods, add ons and other helpful files. (Just in case)

As most of my other ports, this is a work in progress Wrapper. All files and configs needed for this installation are stored inside the wrapper under C:\Program Files\FSX Help Files There you can find my own fsx.cfg file, the Registry Repair Tool, a .spb file and a fseconomy.exe. More on that later.

I'm still trying to find a way for installing FSX through Wine or Crossover, but couldn't get the install to work yet. IF you are able and willing, please test your FSX Disc installation on other wrappers you are using or if available, in your current Crossover Bottles.

Open the 7zip file either with Keka or BetterZip.

I haven't tried the Steam Version yet. I will in the coming months, but I am not sure when I will be able to.

My System Specs:
- OS: Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.4
- CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
- RAM: 8GB
- Video: Intel HD3000
- Disk Space: The Wrapper itself is 1.2 GB in size. With your own FSX installation applied probably around 15.5 GB,

Known Issues:
- 2 Disc Installation takes about 30-50 minutes of time
- Free Flight Window will have no 3D Airplane Preview due to my installation instructions.
- There can be Sound bugs and tearing problems, depending on the hardware you are using
- The Kneeboard isn't working in windowed mode
Pease report any issues you encounter.

Installation:

1. Install Flight Simulator X on a Windows PC or Virtual Machine. Right now there seems no way around it. At least not with my wrapper.
Edit: I finally got around to try the 2 DVD installation on my wrapper. And fortunately the Installation works! Insert the first DVD, start up the Installation. When asked for the second, just eject the first and insert the second. Here's the Downside: The Installation takes roughly about 30-50 Minutes of time. Depending on being installed on a SSD or HDD.

2. Apply FSX Service Packs SP1 and SP2 (the patches for the game)
3. Probably optional, but heartly recommended: Install the Shader 3.0 Add-on from here: http://www.lockonfil...der-30-mod-v16/
4. If you have copied the FSX Files over from a windows PC, just use the FSX Registry Repair contained in my "FSX Help Files" Folder to repair the FSX Paths
5. Use the DVD or a Crack to start the Game once, to create all dependencies and config files. Don't open the Free Flight Window yet!
6. Once opened, configure some settings and close the game/launcher again
7. If you installed the Shader 3.0 Add-on beforehand, add these lines into the fsx.cfg file under [GRAPHICS]:
ALLOW_SHADER_30=1
You can find the file here: C:/users/Wineskin/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX/
8. Then, use the automatic CFG optimization on: http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
which will optimize the config for your specific system. But create a backup of your cfg file, just in case.
8.2 If you want, you can use my own fsx.cfg I provided in my "FSX Help File" Folder. Ignore Steps 7 and 8 in that case.
9. Copy the gscreateflight.spb from my Help Files folder to C:\Program Files\Flight Simulator X\Dialogs. Make a backup of the original and replace it with mine. This is required for fixing the Free Flight Window.

If you have trouble with the games interface, try changing to fullscreen mode when starting a flight, and/or copy the uiautomationcore.dll you can find under windows/system32 into the Game Directory of FSX.

Multiplayer is Working for LAN and DirectConnect. If you want to fly with others I suggest looking here for servers you can join:
http://www.fsxbeyond...om/sessions.php

SimConnect is already installed in this Wrapper. It will function, but I only tested it on FSeconomy and its client application. FSeconomy is stored as an .exe in my FSX Help File Folder, if you already know how to use it, start it through there.

To play FSeconomy:
1. Create an Account at their Website and Game World
2. Use the Wineskin Wrapper to start the fseconomy_client.exe in my FSX Help File Folder
3. Once started, login with your account Details
4. Start Flight Simulator X with the FSX.app inside my Wrapper (FSX.app is an additional App just for this!)
5. Fly!

Installation is possible via WineSkin:
As far as I know the game installation files are usually distributed on several cd, which is the issue as wine does not recognize this discs as actual disk, and so does not continue the installation once you insert a new one. To circumvent this you simply have to copy those discs' contents to a folder (e.g. ~/Desktop/FSX) one after another and each time choose to replace content which is already inside the folder. After this you can install the game using this folder as the setup location. After Installation you should of course delete it because it occupies around 15GB.

I gonna try this wrapper as soon as I find my FSX install discs. ;)
Hi RastaFabi,

I tried this already. The installation starts fine, but just wont continue after the initial launch. Perhaps I'm just missing some external window I have to close (like a license agreement), but all the game is installing are the Fonts and then stops. Did you test this already, and if so, with a specific Wrapper or setup?

But thanks for the advice, I'm grateful for every help I can get with this. If you make a breakthrough, let me know. Maybe I'm indeed missing a step.

You could eigther try installing using a different wine engine or just wait. It's been 2 years or so since I last tried to port FSX and if I remember correct it took about half an hour until any kind of progress could be seen.

Hm, that rings a bell. I remember that from some older installations. I'll try this out when I have the time. Thanks for the tip! I've gone through some Engines and Wrappers and its the same on all of them so far.
Hi RastaFabi,

Finally got around to test the 2 DVD installation of FSX and it works. After 30-50 minutes that is. But without copying over any files. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion. Although it took me some time to try it :)
Howdy all,
relatively new to porting, trying this wrapper for FSX but keep getting a '1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.' error! Tried looking through the help files and tutorials for any guidance, but no luck! Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Dead link.
Nope. Still works. Try out a different browser. Firefox works for me.
worked.
I get an install error:
1607: Unable to install installsheild scripting runtime.
If I try using a blank wineskin wrapper, it takes 5 minutes to ask for disk 2 and doesn't detect the disk.
I am using MDF/MDS files (similar to ISO's).
does the steam version work with your port ??
