Life Is Strange is an episodic interactive drama graphic adventure video game developed by Dontnod Entertainment, and published by Square Enix. The game's plot focuses on Maxine Caulfield, a photography student who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time at any moment, leading her every choice to enact the butterfly effect. The game will consist of five episodes. With six weeks between each episode, it released its first on 30 January 2015. Life Is Strange is available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 via digital distribution.
In the game, story and character development serve as the central point rather than traditional graphic adventure tropes like point-and-click puzzles. The player's actions will be able to adjust the narrative as it unfolds, and reshape it once allowed to travel back in time. Themes of memory and identity are used to convey a sense of nostalgia in the realm of adolescence.

Personal Notes:

Update 2017:
I uploaded a new Wrapper with one of the newer Wine Engines. Reports state that the Unreal Engine works out of the box now, but might not for OSX. I appreciate anyone who wants to test this, since I haven't installed the game at the moment. The old version is still available to download if the new one doesn't work.

Slight Deviation from my Red Orchestra 2 Wrapper. It is the Unreal 3 Engine, so a decent performance will still require a dedicated graphic card (512MB+) or newer. Onboard graphics should have at least 1024MB VRam. I'm still testing things out, but so far the game runs on my setup, with a few fps problems.

- Still testing different configurations. Please be aware that this might not work on all System Specs. Everything pre 10.9 Mavericks or Yosemite can cause Issues.
- Unpack the downloaded archive with 7z, Keka or BetterZip

Tested on:
- OS: Mac OSX 10.9.4
- CPU: Intel Core i5 2.3 GHz
- RAM: 8GB
- Video: Intel HD3000
- Disk Space: Around 400MB for the Wrapper and 2GB for the Game

And

- OS: Mac OSX 10.9.4
- CPU: Intel Core i7 4.0Ghz
- RAM: 16GB
- Video: Nvidia GTX760 2GB

Known Issues:
- Sound issues. Some sounds may be distorted or play twice when a level is loading. Depends on your hardware.
- Texture Issues. Some textures of very few objects (cameras, TVs, Car tires, Eyelashes) may render in rainbow colors. I'm not sure whats causing this, but probably something like Depth of Field or Motion Blur. Sadly disabling it disables tooltips and overlay infos. Again, this probably depends on your hardware.
- Crash after Intro. Some Specs might have problems with this. I found that starting the game directly through the Life is Strange.exe (Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Life is Strange/Binaries/Win32) fixes some errors. Also, disable the Steam Overlay to prevent crashes.
- First time loading of the game and cutscenes might stutter. Restart the game or wait a few minutes for it to resolve itself
- Try playing with the settings to get good performance results. Yuu will always have to turn down the quality when playing games through Wine. To eliminate issues, disable or enable the MacDriver through the Wineskin.app Screen Options or changing the used Windows Version from Windows XP to 7,8 or 10 using winecfg.

If the game works, but the performance plummets, try using my config files and scale them upwards. Remember to lock all files as read only:
Download Link

You should find the Life is Strange Config folder under /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Documents/MyGames/Life is Strange/LifeIsStrangeGame/Config. This can vary if you are using Yosemite or El Capitan.

Please report any issues you encounter.

Fresh Installation through Steam:
1. Start the Wrapper
2. Let Steam download itself and login
3. Download the Game
4. Disable Friends and Steam Overlay in the Steam Settings
5. Start the Game
6. (Optional) After the first time Installation (vcredist, DirectX) navigate to Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Life is Strange (by right clicking the wrapper and opening the package contents) and delete the CommonRedist folder, so you won't get bothered by it again.

Installation with existing files:
1. Start the Wrapper
2. Let Steam download itself, login and log out
3. Open the Wrapper with right click -> show package contents
4. Place your existing Life is Strange Folder in Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common
5. Start the Wrapper, login into steam and begin to install Life is Strange. Steam should fetch all existing files and patch them if needed
6. Disable Friends and Steam Overlay in the Steam Settings
7. Start the Game through Steam
6. (Optional) After the first time Installation (vcredist, DirectX) navigate to Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Life is Strange (by right clicking the wrapper and opening the package contents) and delete the CommonRedist folder, so you won't get bothered by it again.

Cracked Version might work. Not tested yet.

Hi cooleocool,

No need to download the engine alone. I updated my wrapper (Basically an application container in which you install or copy the Life is Strange game) recently with exactly that engine and it should work, although I can't guarantee it. Just use the Download Wrapper Button at the top of the page, unpack the wrapper ("Life Is Strange.app"), start it and it should download Steam automatically. After that you should be able to login, download Life is Strange and at least start the game.

If you have downloaded the game from somewhere else, open the wrapper with right click -> Open Package Contents and copy the game folder inside "drive_c/Program Files". After that open the package contents again and use the Wineskin.app -> Advanced Dialog to navigate/browse to the Life is Strange .exe.

Hi Zephon, thanks for the quick response!
So I downloaded the file from the top of the page, but when I try to unpack it (with keka), I get:
"Error code 2 using "p7zip"
Fatal error"

Also, just to clarify, do I not need anything besides the file? (I don't have wineskin at the moment, but I'm happy to download anything else I need)
Thanks!
Hi coolecool,

Sorry for the late answer. Unpacking should work. I tested it several times myself. If Keka won't work, try 7zip or BetterZip. And also try dowloading with a different browser.

And you don't Need anything else. Starting the Wrapper should be enough. Although there can be Problems on the way. If so, just let me know.
Hi Zephon,
I dowloaded with Chrome and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for all your help. My only small issue is that the game doesn't fill the screen. I am using your config file + high texture quality. I tried changing resolution but it just made the screen turn all white and I had to reload the game.
Thanks again for all your help!

Hi ipavkex,

I compiled the newest Wine Engine with the Unreal Engine 3 fix. Can you test it and report back? Download Link (Dont unpack this!)

This engine works good in RO2 on ElCapitan. Could you compile WS9Wine1.9.9UE3Fix with CSMT option?
Thanks
Can I play my cracked version without steam? I copied my LiS folder in drive_c and navigated to the LifeisStrange.exe  in it but nothing happens when I try to start it.
Am I supposed to be able to access the Steam Store and online stuff? Because I can't

Hi coolecool, Sorry for the late answer ,but I would recommend changing the resolution through the Life is Strange config files in your MyGames folder, found in your native mac "Documents" folder. Just look for the "res" or "resolution" keywords and you should find the data to replace.

You can enable or disable CSMT inside Wineskin, by opening Wineskin.app inside the wrapper and going to Advanced -> Screen Options. Just check or uncheck the specific box with "D3D Boost" on it.

It should work. At least the Codex version (Thats what I tested). This all depends on the version and crack you are using, some cracks might need additional runtimes, like Visual CC, Visual Basic, Vcrun or a newer dotnet framework. Let me know what version you are using and I can try and give some tips.

The Steam store won't work on current Wine versions. I recommend downloading the native steam app for mac and doing all transactions or browsing through there. My wrapper is intended for only playing the game. I would also refrain from using the Steam Overlay or friends. At least for this wrapper.
