Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, and social networking services. Steam provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games on multiple computers, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud saving, and in-game voice and chat functionality. The software provides a freely available application programming interface (API) called Steamworks, which developers can use to integrate many of Steam's functions into their products, including networking, matchmaking, in-game achievements, micro-transactions, and support for user-created content through Steam Workshop. Though initially developed for use on Microsoft Windows operating systems, versions for OS X and Linux were later released.

This wrapper is intended to run Steam Windows only releases on Mac using a Wineskin 2.6.2 64bit wrapper.

Many extra dependencies have also been installed for maximum compatibility with the all the different games available. They include: Microsoft .NET 2.0sp2, 3.5sp1, 4.6.2, Visual C++ 2005 up to 2013, PhysX, d3d9 and more...

This wrapper utilizes the WS9WineStaging64bit2.13 engine. At the time of this wrapper there was a bug present in Wine, where the Steam Store process would not function correctly. The executable flag -no-cef-sandbox was added through Wineskin. This allows the Steam Store to run correctly.

This wrapper was tested to run Skyrim on a 2013 iMac with Intel Iris Graphics, 1536MB vRAM as well as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha on a MBP with ATI 6750, 512MB vRAM

Installation:
Drag and drop the Steam.app to your preferred folder
Double click the Steam.app to complete the Steam installation
Wait for the Steam download and update to finish
Choose log into an existing account and enter you user name and password
Once prompted, check your registered e-mail address for a security code
The wineskin wrapper does not access native steam settings, the security code is for account authenticity
Enter the code and click OK

Valuable info: Any game that requires DirectX10 or higher will not work. This wrapper is intended for Games with a DirectX9 only.

What's New in Version v1.3 (See full changelog)

  • Updated engine to WS9WineStaging64bit2.13
  • Added more dependencies for better compatibility.

@dankoB

you should update your wrapper with once of latest WS9WineStaging64bit engine, because with latest version of steam the engines before the 2.12 versions doesn't work anymore ;)
Ahh...good point. I guess it's causing a lot of issues eh..

EDIT*** The port has been updated!
This is great stuff.
Wine has advanced so much over the last few years that I think it's time for this kind of Universal Wrappers (Steam, Origin ...) just with instructions how to update engines.
People are downloading some old and newer updated wrappers which will probably not work on new Mac and even if its working new engines can make same game working much better and without any glitches.
Hello,
I'm just after the part where you double-click on the icon to complete the Steam installation and it's been stuck at 3/4 of the loading bar for a few hours now; it says "Verifying Steam [x86_x64]". For reference, I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

Did I do something wrong or is it meant to take that long? :000

edit: Oops, never mind, I think I forgot to drag it out of the install folder!
Hi, I am using Late 2014 5k iMac and i have a problem with text not apperaring in Steam app. Posted Image
Do you have any advice on how I could fix this. Other than this, your port is excellent!
What I've tried just has "Running" forever without actually launching. Is this built for older games?

Hi,

Thanks for the wrapper :) I've tried opening the wrapper but it's refusing to. It doesn't even appear in the dock, and no windows come up. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong?
Currently, nothing happens when I double click the file inside the disk image, and when I used Show Package Contents and tried clicking on the wineskin file directly, it gave me an error saying that the application was damaged and should be deleted. Anyone else getting this error/knows how to fix it?
