Homeworld 2 continues the epic struggle of the Hiigarans and their leader Karan S'jet. Many thought their hardships would end when they returned to Hiigara, yet fate has not been so kind to the Exiles. Now the Hiigarans face a new and bitter enemy, a renegade clan from the eastern fringes of the galaxy, who wield the power of the ancients. Homeworld 2 chronicles the valiant journey of the Mothership and its crew into the oldest regions of the galaxy to confront their new foe and discover the truth behind their exile.
*Made possible thanks to dafootballer's Cider 2583 wrapper*
*This is an updated Cider wrapper that is smaller and a little faster than the previous CrossOver 8 wrapper*
Tested system configuration:
Mac OS version: Leopard 10.5.8
Processor: 2.0 gHz Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2.0 GB
Video RAM: ATI Radeon X1600 128 MB
Hard-disk Space: ~1.0 GB
Official/original minimum system requirements:
OS version: Windows XP/2000/98/ME
Processor: Intel Pentium III 833MHz or AMD Athlon 833MHz
RAM: 256 MB
Video: 32 MB OpenGL supported hardware, GeForce or better (with Transform and Lighting), ATI Radeon 7500 or better (with Transform and Lighting)
Fullscreen Switching:
This title supports the ability to toggle between fullscreen and windowed modes. Use the following keys combinations to enable this feature:
Command + Return: Toggles the game between windowed and fullscreen modes.
Command + Tab: Minimizes the game when in fullscreen mode.
Installation instructions:
- Install Homeworld 2 on (1) a physical PC running Micro$oft Windows (2) a virtual machine running Windows, or (3) via CrossOver Games or Pro.
- Apply a no-cd patch to the game (I am not sure if the game can detect your CD through the wrapper). The patch should be one that replaces the original homeworld2.exe file.
-Rename the patched .exe file to: homeworld2nocd.exe
- Copy this entire patched Homeworld 2 folder, including the Sierra folder that contains it, into C:\Program Files\ in the wrapper.
- The full path to Homeworld 2 in the wrapper should now be: C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2\bin\release\homeworld2nocd.exe
- Double click on the wrapper and the game should start. Please post away if you encounter any problems.
Removing Homeworld 2:
- Ensure you are logged in using an account which has Administrative privileges.
- Delete the icon for "Homeworld 2" from your Applications folder or where you installed the game.
- To fully remove the application from your system, additional files can be found in /Users/<YourUsername>/Library/Preferences/HW2Cider Preferences. Please note that this folder also contains your saved games.
Notes/Known issues:
1. Whether Internet multiplay will work depends on whether your copy of Homeworld 2 has a legitimate serial number. LAN and Internet IP games not tested.
2. Be careful when switching resolutions in-game, please do not select one that is larger than your screen.
3. This game has not been tested on Macs with GMA 950 or other Intel graphics chips. I heard the old CX wrapper works, though. UPDATE: GMA 950 works.
4. You might get an error message saying you have obsolete video card drivers, I haven't had any problems ignoring this message.

Wow, this really brings me back. Haven't had a chance to play this in years. Thanks for the port!
I have a valid CD Key but I'm not sure where to put it. I don't know how cider registry works. Anyone get it to work?
Ok I tried using my windows reg settings in conjunction with the Regedit.app as per the updated instructions in the Cider Port Section and put the generated files in the Preference folder within the wrapper. The game still fails to recognize my cd key. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I of course first removed the HW2 Preferences in my ~/library/Prefrences folder.

Could you make a port for Tiger?
I'm kinda in a jam here; I would like to play mods with hw 2 but they're all for windows,
and all the porting stuff is for later versions of mac....

Ok, now i installed CiderX as with CXex, and successfully created my own wrapper, installed from the cd perfectly (for which i needed my cd key), everything ran fine, but it still would say not valid CD key upon trying to log into the gamespy multiplayer ingame. Is there some bit of software we are missing? If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Weil I gave up on the cider port and made a wineskin wrapper. I know it's potentially slower, but runs at full speed for me. Gamespy works fine so I'm all set.
I have more than the required system specs but when I opened the wrapper the icon bounces once then disappears. I am running snow leopard without admin privileges and I have a full copy of the PC version of HW2. If someone could get back to me on this that would be great.

Hey is this thread dead? I have a new computer, a Mac mini with Intel HD graphics. When I start the wrapper, it bounces a couple of times in my dock then crashes. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

hey, got the port to work on my MBP 15" Late 2011. Runs smoothly, but right-clicking does not work which kinda kills the game.
Is they a way to fix this? Running on Lion.
Thanks for any hints

I have fixed the LAN crash which is occurred when clicked the LAN Game but it's not working. Lobby can see PC hosted game but if you host with your MAC, PC doesn't see in lobby and also you cannot join PC hosted game it gives "Different version" error. Is there any development about this error ?
Is there a way to get mods working with it? I saw someone managed to install complex but my best idea for that would be to turn that .exe into it's own wineskin wrapper, which may not work, or it will but not well.
The download link is dead. I just get a bunch of pop-ups.
Anyone have a copy they can reupload. Links are dead
