Having been made one of the undead, the passionate crusader has to realize that he deviated from his religious mission long ago; being only a mundane soldier, he was easy prey for the Vampires to be either killed or embraced. His rebellious nature, however, urges him to find a way to redeem his soul, perhaps by regaining his mortal state. But before long, in a move designed to torment Christof (in retaliation for dispatching Ahzra), the nun is kidnapped and turned into a ghoul, a servitor to Vampires addicted to Vampire blood. This changes Christof's part in the course of events, since he is now being wracked with guilt as he feels his affection towards Anezka led her down a path of sin. Christof swears to face the Vampires who took her and restore her Humanity.

Alan Wake?! Are you serious? It's one of the worst games i've ever played!
Not scary at all, gameplay sucks and the characters are made quite awfully!
One, it is a list for people in general. Not just you.

Two, as with a list of 20 games, there will always be something someone may not like. You could simply suggest another game and explaining your reasons for not liking Alan Wake, rather than challenging the whole premise of the list.

Third, of course people will always complain on this site, rather than appreciate the time it takes to do things. Such a thankless job, no wonder why Dev and Skylarzz quit.

It doesn't need to be scary for it to be a suitable game for Halloween! I can see why its on the list, very unusual story, dark atmosphere... admittedly i found the story a bit repetitive towards the end.

All in all, I like this list!
I'd like mention a few titles that everyone should know of!

- F.E.A.R. (The first, and the scariest!)
- Outlast (maybe the most recent suitable game for Halloween?)
- Condemned: Criminal Origins
- Clive Barker's Undying
- Clock Tower
- Penumbra Series (Mac Native!)
- Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
- Thief: Deadly Shadows

My favourite are:
- Doom 3
- Fatal Frame 2 (will probably require a PS2 Emulator)
- Dead Space (Again, first and scariest!)
- System Shock 2!
- Silent Hill 2 (of course?)

They quit!? Aww...

I didn't know there was a Vampire Masquerade Redemption port on here. thanks!
I really miss seeing devilhunter around...and I'm sure they haven't quit. They probably still fool around with the tools and get things working for themselves. dev had some really great ports with CX(x) wrappers. Black Diamond was just released when I joined up...based on wine 1.1.25...why does that seem so long ago but time seems to be passing so fast!

oh yeah...great post by the way waves...when are we gonna get together for a beer anyway??

...also...what Dan said...F.E.A.R. and Jericho (he actually said Undying but when it comes to halloween, anything Clive Barker does is scary!)

{WARNING: SPOILERS!!!}
So glad to see RESI 4 on here :D one of the best games of my childhood :)
I'm sorry for all... I wrote more but cut most out just well.. forget my comment ;)
By the way, i just wanted to mention that Alan Wake as ONE game of this list, is not how it should or could be! I just played this one on this list, and i didn't know which games have ports here.. Maybe Dead Space would be a better choice to play than Alan Wake, if there's a well working port!

I really didn't want to be offensive to anybody sorry for that!

I just thought you were only talking about games available here so i didn't mention many games, as Dan said Penumbra's really good, and of course Amnesia (The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs maybe for beginners in this game genre, but not for advanced players), and by the way, i really often try to proceed in Outlast but... yeah, it feels like the first time i played Amnesia: TDD :D
I suggest D. It was a horror game for Dreamcast. No pausing, no taking breaks, and there was a time limit. Scary as hell.
