AlterIWNet - Modern Warfare 2

The AlterIWNet Mac Port is the product of dozens, maybe hundreds of hours of hard work put forth by Porting Team team member Drakulix. He's been in close contact with the developers of alterIWNet and had persuaded them to implement certain functions in order to have a working wrapper for Mac port enthusiasts. Without his hard work this project would never have come to light which is why we here at the Porting Team believe that this phenomenal port deserves to be spotlighted.

Thanks for all the hours of hard work put forth in the creation and development of the Mac AlterIWNet port.

Another upcoming wrapper will soon be released by rynotheking14. His wrapper (which utilizes a large portin of Drakulix's work) will be Cider based. Although performance is slightly better, there are other issues that impede a green rating on it. Best of luck to ryno, here's hoping he can get it running smoothly!

alterIWnet is a modification for the popular game Modern Warfare 2, allowing you to play the game as it was meant to be played - with dedicated servers and various other additional features.

alterIWnet features
Dedicated servers
Play Modern Warfare 2 with fully-customizable dedicated servers, allowing lag-free gameplay and administration to get rid of cheaters. Don't like dedicated servers, don't worry - the classic matchmaking is available as well.

Modifications
Another typical feature of PC games that was severely lacking in the original Modern Warfare 2, alterIWnet allows you to play with various modifications and new game modes, including Black Ops' player-favorite Gun Game, Sharpshooter and One in the Chamber game modes, as well as fan-made sniper-only or Old School game modes.

Developer console
Don't you just hate it when your game decides to not work, or do you love spending hours tweaking every last bit of your game, and were you annoyed at the lack of a developer console in MW2 - no need to worry, alterIWnet includes a separate developer console without restrictions*, with a fully-functional in-game console planned for future releases.

Maintained anticheat
alterIWnet also features a continuously-maintained anti-cheat system which pretty much automatically prevents cheating from ever occurring, to ensure undisturbed gaming pleasure.

Custom content
alterIWnet includes the ability to have somewhat-custom content, including ported versions of singleplayer levels to completely new multiplayer levels*, custom weaponry**, sounds and skins for weapons/other textures.

The Cider Port crashed on my Mac, but the Wineskin Port works. I just have to type the anti-cheating thing in on every start. The performance is awesome but the mouse is a little bit laggy. Does anybody have the same problem?

me too but sometimes the cider works and it's good but the cider wrapper works jçust sometimes

after alteriw updated the game it stopped working for me :(
i'm getting the error ''mw2 mp requires windows version 6 or greater''

Failed to start AlterIWNet with the provided files. main/iw_22.iwd is out of date and not updateable. Please use the AlterIWNet MP RIP or fix this yourself!

Is what shows up when I try to update it!

aim getting this error massage "Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer requires Windows version 6 or greater" aim using lion 10.7.3 any advice ?

for all those who getting the massage of need windows version higher then 6 !!!
it works under wineskin version !!!

on the play icon> right click >show package contents>
and then enter contents> resources
and then right click on top of the modern warfare 2, (not modern warfare 2.icon!!!)
and show contend again !!!
and then you will see wineskin icon ! cdouble click to open the wineskin console.
from the menu click Advance , and make sure you on the Tools Tab !
then from the left under Wine tools click on config Utility.(and wait for wine configuration to load ). after its been load you will see window with few tabs !
make sure you on applications TAB . at the button you will see windows Version drop menu ! make sure you choose windows 7 !!! and then click apply! and ok just in case. close any windows that you open and try load the game. thanks

there should be a option to play it maybe in private matches  , with using amachi or whatever this app is called , i will return with answer in few days .

So I changed it to Windows 7 in wine. I'm still getting the same error. Is this because their servers are down & I'm too late to play this now? :(

The servers are off, so its not worth it anymore really. But when I was using this port, you had to type it EXACTLY as it was written, with the period at the end, it was case sensitive too.

true, i think you should read most of the other comments, liten there is no alteriw anymore, their servers are down forever, actually most of the people who was building it , are now working for activation, and alteriw version is now officially part of the original modern warfare 2 game, so if you have steam account with original copy of mw2 , you can play alteriw older maps and also more maps who will be released in the next future. hope that information helped you.
