New member signup (temporarily?) enabled again

New member signup is enabled until further notice, to check whether we were able to solve the SPAM issue or it needs more drastical measures.

This is an undeveloped idea but maybe we should not allow users to register at all unless done by an invite. All of the download links will be available for the public but to actually post a user needs to use an invite code. Anyone with me here?

That sounds reasonable. There are plenty of successful sites all over the web that thrived using this model.

Unknown persons may also be able to ask for invitation @IRC...

Not to be rude - However:

I disagree completely with this idea. We want people to sign up for the forums. No one would sign up at all this way. I would love the forums more active - this would not help.

How would people get invited? By being lucky and meeting somebody that is a member here?

Or by spamming others to invite them?

I like the idea, don't get me wrong, but there must be a good way to get invited.

No offense taken. But as you can see, letting people sign up just leads to more and more continuous spam. I don't see many people posting here. Unless I just don't pay attention, most of the posts here are "SKYRIIMZ NOT LODZ" or "WATZ WARPER?!". Again, that was an incomplete and slightly rushed idea. Just a thought I wanted to share.

Do the forums get a lot of spam coming from OAuth style providers like Google? You could restrict signup to using Google, FB or Twitter accounts potentially? Most people will likely have at least one?

thank you for allowing new registrations again - ive been trying for 4 years to get MTG: Shandalar to work on my dosbox - your service has a 2012 port of the game i can play but had to register to get ahold of.
