Fallout 3 is an action role-playing game released by Bethesda Game Studios, and the third major installment in the Fallout series. The game was released in North America on October 28, 2008, in Europe and Australia on October 30, 2008, in the United Kingdom and Ireland on October 31, 2008, and in Japan on December 4, 2008 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Fallout 3 takes place in the year 2277, 36 years after the setting of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse that devastated the game's world in a future where international conflicts culminated in a Sino-American war in the second half of the 21st century. The player character is an inhabitant of Vault 101, a survival shelter designed to protect up to 1000 humans from the nuclear fallout. When the player character's father disappears under mysterious circumstances, the player is forced to escape from the Vault and journey into the ruins of Washington D.C. to track him down. Along the way the player is assisted by a number of human survivors and must battle a myriad of enemies that inhabit the area now known as the "Capital Wasteland". The game has an attribute and combat system typical of an action strategy game but also incorporates elements of survival horror games.

Personal Notes:
This was a pain in my behind to get working. You have to make a fresh install of fallout 3 into the wrapper and can't install it in windows or another wrapper , otherwise when you start falloutLauncher.exe it only gives you the option to install and doesn't recognize fallout 3 as installed. Fixed! Thanks to clocknova for pointing this out

Known Issues:
-Cant set resolution for windowed mode (override this by right clicking the wrapper and click show package contents the open wineskin.app and the click on set screen option's and the click override and rootless (windowed) )
-Have to install a fresh copy of fallout 3 inside the wrapper and can't drag and drop Bethesda folder otherwise you cannot modify your settings in fallout launcher. Fixed!

Installation:

*WARNING* You have to install a fresh copy of fallout 3 in the wrapper and cannot just drag and drop your Bethesda folder into the wrapper.

First right click the wrapper and click show package contents. Then click on wineskin.app then click on Advanced . Then click on tools and then click on config utility(winecfg) . the click on the applications tab and set the version to windows vista. Then Install the game by clicking on Install windows software button on the wineskin.app main menu. Remember to set the windows version back to xp once you're done! Or you can install it from windows / crossover / installer.app etc..

Also Modify this in your Fallout.ini file located at documents/Fallout3
1) Open ~/My Games/Fallout3/FALLOUT.INI
2) Find bUseThreadedAI=0 and change it to bUseThreadedAI=1
3) Add iNumHWThreads=2 after bUseThreadedAI=1 (only file you have a 2+ core or dual processor)
4) Save file

Sounds like you just need to include the registry file with the Fallout 3 entries with your wrapper. Drag-and-drop should work after that. At least, that's what it sounds like to me. Give it a try.
yea i found out that the game that my path file was for new vegas because I previously used it for New Vegas . To fix the problem you have to change the patch file from FalloutNV to Fallout3 and change the install path value to C:\Program Files\Bethseda Softworks\Fallout 3 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Bethesda Softworks \ Fallout3 . Here's a screenshot anyone doesn't understand. Really got to update this wrapper

side note : where are reg. files kept anyways? Nevermind I got it
So how does this compare to DankoB's wrapper? Performance in his is decent, but I've never been able to play for very long without the game freaking out and crashing. I play with a handful of mods installed; have you tested this with any mods?
Hmmm. I don't have a previous install, so I tried to do a fresh install, but the installer crashes.

try setting the windows version to vista in winecfg.
Did an install into another wrapper and dropped it into yours. I get a "program error" crash while the title screen loads. Every time. I'm using the GOTY edition, which is fully patched to v1.7. No mods installed yet. This is also what happens when I try making my own wrapper with the latest Wineskin.

EDIT:

Tried setting to WinVista and Win 7. No luck. Also, the music doesn't play over the title screen. This was a problem with other wrappers before. Do you hear it?

In case you haven't figured it out, I REALLY want to be able to play this game without a reboot, but have had little success thus far, even with wrappers that supposedly work great.

hmm never happened to me because I always follow the instructs from here : http://appdb.winehq....rsion&iId=14322

Never crashes on me and also I play on ultra high on my crappy 2600 pro
D'oh! I remembered to delete the existing Fallout 3 folder in ~/My Games (the prefs from previous installs can cause problems.) Now the game loads and runs just fine. Seems we can all overlook the obvious sometimes.

I loaded a previous save from just after exiting Vault 101 and the performance so far seems great. Now I'm going to install FOMM and install the following mods and see how it goes:

Darnified UI
Enhanced Weather
Fellout
Fallout 3 Reanimated
Marts Mutant Mod
NMC's Performance Texture Pack
XFO

One note--I still don't get any music over the title screen (but I do get it over the launcher). It seems to play in game though, but I haven't tried listening to the in-game radio yet.

What modifications did you make to your wrapper to make things work? I still can't get it to run properly in a basic unmodified Wineskin wrapper.

had to force msvcr900 to bulletin and msvcp90 to native and force msasn1 to native in winecfg

Edit: I also noticed that I didn't hear the music on startup . probably a problem in wine and I think music on the pip-boy doesn't work as I get nothing when three dog plays music.

Edit2: also after I install games for windows live , I had to replace xlive.dll and set it to native in wine cfg
I know there's a way to fix that music problem. I'll see if I can find it for you, but DankoB knows how to do it. Ask him.

I'm having trouble getting FOMM to run. It posts this to the crashdump. I don't know enough to know what it means, though.

install mono28 in winetricks. also I think i need to install a codec pack to get the music working...
Thanks. Found the tips at WineHQ. Also needed gdiplus. FOMM works now. Going to try installing the mods. Let me know what you figure out with the music.

EDIT:

FOMM still crashing a lot when I try to create new FOMODs.

Glad you got FOMM working , also can't find anything about the music except that fallout 3 has problems with audio codecs being installed .
also later on I'm going to install k-lite codecs and see i can get the music working
