Welcome to an industrial revolution in a world of magic! Imagine a place of wonder, where magic and technology coexist in an uneasy balance, and an adventurer might just as easily wield a revolver as a flaming sword. A place where great industrial cities house castle keeps and factories, home to Dwarves, Humans, Orcs and Elves alike. A place of arcane runes and steam-works, of magic and machines, of sorcery and science. Welcome to the land of Arcanum!
In this one-of-a-kind cRPG the world adapts to your decisions! Whether you choose the path of magic or technology, good or evil, characters will react differently to your character. You can finish each quest in many ways – bribing, dueling, negotiating and more! With a huge map, more than 300 unique characters and monsters, plus many different endings to unravel, this game will keep you busy for a long, long time.
Personal Notes
This seems to be stable, tested with unofficial patch and high-res patch, mouse has proper Mac OS X acceleration and loading times are short. I haven’t come very far, but this seems to be RPGamer’s heaven! So many choices, many ways to play and so much content. The only thing that drags it down is retarded companion AI and a bloated interface.
tested Game-Version: GoG.com download
Genre: turn-based Western RPG
Walkthrough
Cheats (I included that cheat file in the package, just in case)
My System Specs:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
- CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- RAM: 4 GB
- Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
- Port Disk Space: 1.6 GB
Known Issues:
- Had to use Wineskin ddr=gdi; it’s not an issue at all, but it feels weird to me, Probably just superstition ^^
Installation:
Note: I do own a German retail version on CD, but that one would not install in Wine (the CD would not read correctly). Maybe this has been fixed, maybe my CDs were somehow broken (though they worked on Windows), I don’t know. You could try copying all CD contents to your hard drive or installing on Windows and then copying your files into the wrapper. Or just buy it at GoG.
- Launch Arcanum.app, choose "Install Windows Software" and install the game using your retail CD or digital download
- You might have to use a No-CD crack (unofficial Patch removes the CD check)
OR
- Copy your installed Game files into here: Arcanum.app/Contents/drive_c/Program Files/..., launch Arcanum.app, choose Advanced and set the game's EXE as the Windows EXE (might only work for a GoG release; use the method above)
Using the Cheat File
Place ArcanumXVirgilDebug.dat inside the folder you installed Arcanum (inside the wrapper) into, i. e. the one with Arcanum.exe. Inside the game talk to Virgil, choose to ask him some questions and then choose debug menu. This will only work with the original Virgil, not resurrected Virgil.

works flawlessly, thanks so much! what a game
Thank a lot! Works great on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Can you re-upload the wrapper of this magnificent game? we appreciate so much ^__^
It's back up again, enjoy.
Tested and confirmed working on an Intel HD 3000 graphics card. Awesome job, love it!
Hi there. I am using the wrapper with the GOG version, but somehow after the initial Sierra logo,Troika logo, and then the initial Loading Arcanum pic, it just kicks me out to my desktop.
I've installed it on my windows pc first, then applied the unofficial patch, then the high-res patch. It works on my windows PC. but fails when I moved it to my mac.
FYI, I am using the mid 2011 13'' MBA with OS X Lion 10.7.2.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Weird. Have you tried installing everything firectly into the wrapper? That's how I did it, although there sould be no difference since we are both using the GoG version.
Thanks for replying
I haven't tried that because I was wondering, how would I install the unofficial patch and the high-res into the wrapper?

The same way you would install any Add On or Patch: After you installed the game right-click the wrapper and choose Show Package Contents. Inside the wrapper you will find Wineskin.app, which is pretty much your main tool for making changes to the wrapper (it's the same thing that pops up if you lanch an empty wrapper). Choose Install Windows Software, then choose the mod's installer and proceed the usual way.
Also, inside the wrapper you can find the wrapper's C drive where the game has been installed to. So if you would ever need to get something out of the wrapper (like a save file) or make changes to files (like editing an INI by hand), that's the way to get there.

Hey, thanks, it worked. well... kind of...
Now that i can actually see the menu, I see screen tearing. When I start the new game, after the movies, I'm at the zeppelin. Whole screen is black, until I move the mouse cursor. Basically the screen appears as little blocks of square wherever the mouse cursor went. I wonder if it is because of some graphics limitation of the MBA but I doubt it because I can play WOW on it perfectly.
I noticed that certain windows 7 PC requires the ddraw.dll to be removed. Is that the case here?

I managed to solve that problem. It was the -doublebuffer modifier at the EXE string. I removed it and the screen no longer tears.
1 last question. In fullscreen mode, how do I go back to my desktop? The usual cmd+tab doesn't work.

Wineskin has a special key combo: Command + Alt + A (Command is the key left and right of the space bar in case you don't know). Works for every game.
As for the doublebuffer, people at the AppDB always use it, that's why I put it there. I don't even know what it does.

Installed the GOG version on my Macbook Pro 10.6.8. Game starts fine but for some reason it won't recognize the mouse at all. Same thing happens when I plug in a USB one. I've installed the latest unofficial patch but the problem persists. I'm running it in fullscreen mode because I couldn't get it to run in windowed. Is there something I'm missing?
There shouldn't be anything... I don't know, try some of the newer Wine engines or delete the wrapper and install the game again, maybe something went wong.
Got the mouse to work by unticking the "Auto Detect GPU Info for Direct3D" in Wineskin - just in case anyone's having the same problem.
