In the dystopian future of the year 2052, society slowly spirals into chaos. A lethal virus, the “Gray Death”, ravages the world. The only vaccine, “Ambrosia”, is in such short supply, it is only available to those wealthy enough and deemed “vital to the social order”. With no hope for a cure for the common people, riots occur worldwide and a number of terrorist organizations have formed. As a response, the United Nations has created The United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO). You assume the role of JC Denton, a nanotechnologically augmented UNATCO agent. After completing his training, JC gets slowly plunged into the world of augmentations, human misery, and conspiracies, determined to uncover the truth behind the real world order.
Deus Ex is an unquestionable masterpiece of a game. With its excellent blending of genres (RPG and FPS), ambitious and multi-layered storyline, and highly interactive and expansive environments it is a "living legend" among gamers. The level of flexibility in character development allows you to follow your own style of gameplay. Stealth, combat, deception, hacking - whatever works, and there is no “best” choice, only “your choice”. Every skill you invest in counts (except for swimming!) and opens new possibilities. So find out for yourself why Deus Ex is on all those "Greatest Games of All Time" lists.
Personal Notes:
Deus Ex… no one dares to say anything negative about this game. No one. Is it really that good? I’m about to find out, this is actually my first time playing Deus Ex. The port itself is weird; I had to use an old engine (1.3.24), because a bug in Wine makes the screen flicker like crazy in anything above 1.3.29, but only with some renderers. I found the combination of 1.3.24 and the Direct3D renderer to work best (not counting any alternate renderers).
tested Game-Version: GoG.com download
Genre: RPG with FPS and stealth gameplay
My System Specs
- OS: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
- CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- RAM: 4 GB
- Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
- Port Disc Space: 910 MB (GotY edition without mods)
Known Issues:
- mouse feels kind of “sticky” in the menus (gameplay is fine though)
Installation:
- Launch Deus Ex.app, choose "Install Windows Software" and install the game using your retail CD or digital download
- You might have to use a No-CD crack
OR
- Copy your installed game into the wrapper contents here: C/Program Files/..., launch Deus Ex.app, choose Advanced and set the game's EXE as the Windows EXE (might only work for a GoG release; use the method above)
Mods
These are the mods I tried so far and how they worked for me:
- Kentie’s launcher (Deus Exe): used instead of the game’s regular launcher, has more options and basically makes Deus Ex run on modern systems. The “disable mouse acceleration” option got my mouse stuck in the upper left corner, so that didn’t work. the rest i either didn’t care about or it worked perfectly. i highly recommend it!
- Chris Dohnal’s Direct3D 9 renderer: renders Deus Ex using Direct X 9. I haven’t seen any major difference in visuals nor performance with this renderer, but it doesn’t hurt either, so feel free to use it. Another good thing is that this renderer does not flicker when using a Wine engine above 1.3.29 (tested with 1.4rc2)
- Kentie’s Direct3D 10 renderer: Doesn’t work for me (as expected, it’s Direct X 10 after all)
- Chis Dohnal's OpenGL renderer: Mouse is broken, gets stuck at the top of the screen.
- New Vision: A series of high-res textures. The package includes kenties’ Direct X 10 renderer and the alternate OpenGL renderer, but you should check their respective websites for the newest version. Anyway, this mod works fine.
- Project HDTP: High-def textures and better models for characters, weapons and other stuff. Hasn’t been updated in years and the only release is incomplete and just a showcase. It works fine, but its incompleteness makes some models look great and other still bad, so don’t use it if you don’t like mixed quality.

Umm.... There is a native version already...... What is the point of this port?.....
Can you run that native version on Mac OS X on an Intel processor? I don't think so. The point, since you ask, is to play Deus Ex on modern Mac OS X systems. Windows users use mods, we use Wine.
I actually think the old version won't run in osx at all, and only OS9.
I have the game on my old G4 450MHz, GeForce 4MX with OS 9.2!

Please show where you can find native Deus Ex for mac?
I do have the 12 year old one, on CD, but it does only run in OS9.
There is an emulator for os 9 on mac!!!

yes, but it fails at opengl, so deus ex won't even start.
Besides, it's neither on Steam nor is it native. Also, please don't use more than one exclamation mark.

I could get a previous version of Deus Ex up, which I obtained from Porting Team, but it's not made for Lion, it is made for Leopard and Snow Leopard, I also have the wrapper for Invisible War.
It work on my iMac running OS X Lion like a charm
thanks a lot
thanks a lot
I couldn't get mine working.
I downloaded the game with the crack and it didn't work.
Not even with another crack

Not sure what to make of that... did you try the usual things like chaninging the engine, updating the wrapper?
