A lot of popular sites are starting to implement a "Like"button on their posts/page. This button works through facebook, so anyone with a facebook account that's already logged in can just click like on things they are interested in. Why am I suggesting this? Facebook seems to have a takeover with people likeing all sorts of stuff, including content on websites, it could be a good source for traffic :) I'm sure plenty of people on here will have friends with macs and similar interests in mac gaming, who they are friends with on facebook (Given that they have a facebook account).

I don't know, it's just an idea :) maybe just for the main blog so people can like the port of the week for example, then their friends would see it and like it too, and so on... but it could also work as bbcode for the forum too, up to you!

I don't like facebook :x

But in my opinion it's ok if these buttons are only on the blog and not in the forum.
Maybe we could try it for a while to see how people react :)

It's just an idea anyway :) since a majority of websites seem to make use of viral advertising via social networking, why not try it too while it's so simple and before everyone else floods into it as well... Especially for the blog, it could be a nice way to make this place a little more well known :D

Why not. It would work great, only on the blogs though.

We can still post links on our facebook pages if needed (for ports)

I have a facebook account but haven't signed in to it in months...I wonder how many messages I've missed....of yeah none cause I don't miss facebook even a little bit.

But if it will help increase traffic to the main blog then I say have at it

There is a Facebook "Like" Button in every Blogpost.
I didn't put it there, it came automatically with the Wordpress 3.0 Upgrade.

Also in a Forum it doesn't make much sense because you have to login in most Forums like ours, but on a Blogpage it could be useful.

Anyways, it's already there.

It depends, do you want hundreds of people who dont have a clear idea what a "porting team" is or if they have "the macs" before showing up and signing up? It is one think to have a link to Digg or a similar tech minded community, but I can see a bunch of people suddenly requesting wrappers or ports of "FarmVille" without fully understanding the basic concepts, or existing compatibility.
With the current system you have to at least show a basic concept of searching and having an idea of what your looking for. Also it could explode the amount of moderation needed as more mac users flood in and get caught up to speed.

I've gotta agree. Increased traffic is not always a good thing

(having the authority of five minutes' membership) It seems like the community as it stands maintains a healthy distance from "farmville"-type members as well as asinine corporate interests who would seek to blight your honest labors. I came across the site through exhaustive google searching for help in Cidering a game... and I think it's better that way!

Perhaps just a like button that isnt linked to facebook? Or you have the option to not link to facebook?
You got to accommodate all those anti-facebook people too (all those people... negative connotation)

Also, a dislike button just seems like it would incite trolling/arguing...
