Hey guys, lately, when I get on the forum, I get a huge slowndown / lags of 20-30 seconds (with the spinning wheel of death), during which time Safari doesn't respond to any command. Once the page is "loaded" (after the lag), browsing the forum is about the same as before (some slowdown, but nothing as bad). The forum never did anything of the like, and browsing other pages is just as usual... it only happens here. I do believe it is related to the Hollydays' banner, but I am not sure.
Am I the only one to have this problem?

It could be very well related to the banner, since it's a 1.5 MB gif.
Total overkill, but this gets taken down tomorrow or the day after.
Last time we had some javascript snow effect here, boy this was CPU intensive...

If you are using Safari, this can happen.
Safari is insanely bad with animated gifs. On the iPhone, gifs are a slow slideshow.
Firefox or Opera have no problems with gifs. Chrome, i don't know (also webkit)

Chrome hangs for a second until most of the gif is loaded, if you haven't loaded the banner before (or else it's stored in your browser's cache). But, as dev said, the banner won't be up for much longer.

Yeah, I'm using Safari (although I also have Firefox and Chrome installed). I really hate how Safari handles flash and other stuff of the like... But I can live with that slowdown for a short period of time.

I've replaced the banner with a lower quality version (half the file size, thanks to RazorPro), it should be noticeably faster now. Can you clear your cache (Safari > Empty Cache), try again and get back to us?
