@  J0ggernaut : (20 July 2014 - 10:48 AM) im on an imac with windows 7 lolololololololololol
@  Hrachya : (20 July 2014 - 03:52 AM) Alright, I see your reasoning.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 11:43 PM) If a piece of software is hideous (e.g, as with plenty of win/linux ports), it is not something I am going be using on a regular basis. By that extent, I find the bar of this quality to be lower on windows, and even possibly even worse on linux.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 11:37 PM) What software I like is going to be pretty subjective but: Finder, Adium, Keynote, Terminal environment, Safari, many aspects of the OS (inactive background scrolling, system wide support autosaving, restoration, auto-correct, whatever). And design does matter to me for something I am going to be using frequently.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 11:22 PM) Rather than specs being important to me, what is more important is the software, hardware and integration between them (e.g, system wide support for gestures). As far as hardware for example, I've never seen a trackpad that compares to Apple, and other things like their magsafe are pretty nice.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 11:15 PM) By support I mean official support from Apple and from 3rd party developers. I have run into support channels where people run into issues since they have a hackintosh, and quite reasonably 3rd party devs only support apple branded hardware. Since I'm a dev obviously this is a big deal for me as well.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 11:10 PM) The prices may be higher but their price value stays higher over 3 or so years which is what I said.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:23 PM) And if you can give me an example of software on a Mac that is "better" than it is on PC then I'd appreciate it.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:22 PM) Installing Mac OS X on a PC is a no brainer and there are forums for hackintosh computers so support is there.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:21 PM) CyberPowerPC can build one and give you a three year warranty.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:21 PM) Actually ignore what I said about putting words into my mouth, didn't realize I used the word build. Either way, many companies could build a computer for you.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:20 PM) Apple has always built computers with low quality, underclocked hardware at an extremely high price. I doubt they will change because people are still buying their computers.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:20 PM) A computer bought in a store for the same price as a Mac is most likely more powerful than the Mac itself.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:19 PM) I never said that you have to build a computer, quit putting words into my mouth.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:19 PM) Bollocks. Since 2007 they have been selling computers with terrible hardware at an extremely high price.
@  Hrachya : (19 July 2014 - 09:18 PM) "n a few years down the road, a Mac will retain its price value longer than PCs would, making it sensible to sell, it price is really bothersome. Again, I don't buy a computer just so I can later upgrade it."
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 07:15 AM) And there is a *lot* of stuff I need to so in the UNIX world that makes Windows absolutely the worst choice of system to use. There are plenty of utilities in this realm that doesn't even bother supporting windows or if it does, with limitations.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 07:10 AM) Therefore in that way they are actually cheaper, but this is not a point I particularly care about.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 07:09 AM) In a few years down the road, a Mac will retain its price value longer than PCs would, making it sensible to sell, it price is really bothersome. Again, I don't buy a computer just so I can later upgrade it.
@  Zorg : (19 July 2014 - 07:06 AM) (But I don't like PC hardware anyway)
