Hi,

I've been trying to get PCXS2 running on my mac, but I always get stuck on trying to install vcrun2010 under dlls on Winetricks 2.5.12. I always get the following error:

Also, after I download msxml3, what do I do with the downloaded files?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice!

You can install msxml3 first using Winetricks, but it should already do that.

Also, what version are you using? Remember that development version are just that, and may break anywhere at any time (especially with the problems Codeweavers have with the testbots).

Best wishes,
Oscar

I have already installed msxml3, do I have to open it as an application or something in order to run pcxs2 properly? I'm using Winetricks 2.5.12. I'm really new to this, any help is appreciated!

Are you using a fresh wrapper? Or something prepared elsewhere? And with version I meant the engine version (sorry for the confusion).

How do I know if it's a fresh wrapper? And how to check the engine version?

If you didn't make it yourself, it is probably not fresh. If you did make it yourself, you would probably know. Please read the manual at http://wineskin.urge...php?page=Manual

Have you tried running switching to the latest version 1.6.x engine? Then install VCRun. If the application does not work then, try switching back to 1.7.10 after you install VCRun

I have tried 1.6.x, 1.6.2 and 1.6-rc4x. All did not work for me, even after closing and opening wineskin after changing engines. Got the same error, "Setup.exe" has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.

Could you try recreating the wrapper from scratch? I.e. start a new wrapper and install all the dlls that you think PCXS2 needs? The vcrun2010 should normally work, so I suspect something is broken in the wrapper you have.

So do I select the option "Rebuild Wrapper"? I clicked it and then got prompted with this window:

Wine Gecko Installer

Wine could not find a Gecko package which is needed for applications embedding HTML to work correctly. Wine can automatically and install it for you.

Note: It is recommended to use your distributor's packages instead. See http://wiki.winehg.org/Gecko for details

you wrapper logs show 2.5.12 ... you should upgrade it to 2.6.0.

Wine Gecko and Wine Mono install prompts ... only click Install if you need them.  If you don't cancel them.   Gecko is a replacement engine for IE, so only if your game uses any mshtml or IE web page rendering, does it need it (most don't).  Mono is the open source implementation of .NET, which is only needed if your program can run with Mono instead of .NET, if it even needs .NET at all.

I didn't mean rebuild (though that might help). I meant recreate by starting with a fresh, empty wrapper.

doh123: I have tried updating to 2.6.0. Still does not succeed in downloading vcun2010, with either engine 1.6.X or 1.6.2. Same error, setup.exe needs to quit unexpectedly.

ovvldc: And when I have created a fresh wrapper, "My Cool Wrapper", does it automatically switch to the new wrapper I have just created? Do I open this new wrapper in the .app version or do I continue using Wineskin?

The Wineskin.app you are running is inside of the wrapper it is manipulating... you need to run Wineskin.app inside the wrapper that you want to use.

its possible something else already installed in your wrapper is breaking the vcrun2010 install, so its good to try with a new wrapper.

I opened the app "mycoolwrapper" that my new wrapper was created in and ran winetricks via that, it still gives the same notice that setup.exe needs to close. Using latest version 2.6.0 and engine 1.6.X. How do I make sure that I'm using my new wrapper if you think I have failed to use my own wrapper?

Yes, it would. And the wine log, not the X11 log (if you get one).

All this "initialising stuff" tells us what is going on.

I was switching between engines to try to install the DLL, but now I've reverted to the latest engine version.
