Hello porters and gamers,

It is that time of year again. Has anyone had any experiences (positive or negative) with MacOS 10.12 Sierra, Wineskin and/or various engines?

Thanks,
Oscar

I haven't, at the moment, the need to pass to a new OS X, I'm yet with Yosemite, sorry...

It could be I will try it into an external disk... just to test wineskin, but I don't think to make it too soon

Yes, Wineskin 2.6.2 works in Sierra.
I am playing my favourite games.

My position is more ambivalent. Somes 2.6.2 Wrapper works, others not, and I don't know why. It seems that sometime "Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded." and crash.
A new one don't work, even the "config utility" tools. An idea ?

Are you using a standard engine or one of the staging/sherry ones? Those need a set of updated libraries to work. I seem to recall errors like this when you don't.

It's depend. The staging/sherry seems to works. Not all the standard ones... I haven't find why, until now... The problem seems more to come from the wrapper ini than the engine.

I am trying to download a SW called Sew Art. it works within the Wineskin wrapper on my MacBook. however, when I try to open the application it gives me a permissions error. I changed the file to a Read/Write permission, but still no luck.  Any ideas?

I haven't even used Sierra, so I have no idea... but if you find an issue that needs to be fixed, I'll see if I can.

Some wrappers work better than others... in my case, i played mass effect between the 10.11 and 10.12 upgrade, and had no problems at all... but mass effect 2 is a little buggy now... last time i played them was a year ago, using yosemite, and everything was perfect.

Right now i'm having character facial texture problems and the irritating mouse problem, where i can't look freely because it get stuck at some point... no other problems....

Haven't tried with other games...

Running MacOS Sierra and I'm having very few problems with Wineskin, although Wineskin usually crashes when I'm trying to update any wrapper older than 2.6.0 to 2.6.2 (otherwise it won't work). I've experimented with manually swapping out the Wineskin.app in the wrapper with one from a fresh wrapper and that doesn't seem to work either. It's still a mixed bag as to the results I get from that.

EDIT: I attempted building a custom Wineskin engine (simply how it came) using the Wine 1.9.21 source code and it did the normal launch in Terminal and then require installation of GCC 4.2, but that eventually fails and no engine is created.

EDIT: Wrappers version 2.4 and older won't work, 2.5.5 does.

I upgraded from 10.10 to 10.12, and noticed that when I launched Skyrim using Anarath's wrapper, text no longer appears in the Steam window, making it almost impossible to navigate to launch the game itself. Others won't even launch anymore (Dragonball Xenoverse, for example). The main error I get is "An error occurred while starting the X11 server: Failed to activate core devices." Any suggestions as to how I can get this fixed?

The steam error is widely known, so you can find that one or just update the engine. I just made a wrapper with CX 15.3.1 and it works well. And use the Mac driver.

Have you disabled SIP? It's necessary since El Capitan, tutorial here: http://portingkit.co...php?topic=289.0

"Use Mac driver instead X11" in screen options in the wineskin module seems repair the wrapper.

Same with me, MO is full of boxes. I can launch Skyrim but it crashes after a few minutes. Tried installing Anarath's 1.5 wrapper (I was using 1.4 with Yosemite) but can't even get the wrapper to open - "wineskin is currently busy..." Don't know what to try from here. It was working well in Yosemite.

Sounds like something is still running. Try killing any processes with 'wine' in them before trying again. Then change the engine, preferably to the exact same engine, so that some stuff gets fixed. Sierra and Wineskin take some fiddling to get used to each other...

I'm having great success recently rebuilding wrappers under Sierra...

The big thing with Sierra at them moment is a major bug in SDL versions under 1.2.15

I believe that Daphne, Cave Story+ and Armagetron Advanced are all affected, and the result is NO SOUND... I will do a quick port of Armagetron Advanced and upload it now, to go along with my Daphne multiboot wrapper.

I know u need Wrapper 2.6.2 is a "must have" for MacOS Sierra..  Updated all my ports that broke after a clean install, and they continue to work..

Actually, i just ended up re-installing all games from scratch because it was more straightforward..

I did run into troubles as i usually do with Descent 3, but got that to work no problem.. and getting round copy protection needing disc with NFS undercover and NFSU2.

so ya, MacOS Sierra requires 2.6.2.. if you are already or there, just refresh the wrapper.

Create a new Wineskin wrapper for it, and then move the game folder inside your cider wrapper to the new wineskin wrapper

it won't let me choose the file path to the metal slug.exe it just redirects me to the contents of the empty wrapper. when i drag the exe into the new wrapper it works and the screen is no longer inverted but there are still 4 screens split and it actually glitches at the title screen

ok mate, I made a Wineskin's wrapper for you...

The nexts ones are the things you need to make your "metal slug complete" (aka "collection") working again
  • open your cider's wrapper with right click and selecting "show package contents"
  • browse and go inside this path: /Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/
  • Now "copy&move" the "MetalSlug" folder you found inside that path to your desktop
  • Download my Wineskin's wrapper from here...
  • Open the MSC.dmg you downloaded and copy and paste the "Metal Slug Complete.app" to your desktop
  • double click  on it and once you  see the Wineskin window, choose "Advanced"
  • Now select the "Install Software" button that you see at the bottom of that tab...
  • Now, inside the "installer" window, select "Move a folder inside"
  • Browse to your desktop and select the "MetalSlug" folder you extracted by your old cider's port

Now your new "Metal Slug Complete" port is ready.

Close the wineskin window and...

Enjoy

thank you so much but the game still has 4 screens and glitches at the menu screen. i was able to make a wrapper that does that but no idea how to even begin to troubleshoot and resolve the 4 screen issue. but thanks for the effort!
