Hello all, it's time for our first little Contest in a while.

Currently we have a lot of different Wrapper types here, it's getting a little hard to differ between them.
I'm talking about these things:
Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image
And we'll be adding a few more, seeing as Drakulix' CiderX is now coming along nicely, as we as syao's ScummVM Wrapper.

Status of Ports and their Icons

To make things a little more easier for ourselves and others, we'll regroup the Wrapper types a bit.
Also most of these will not really fit anymore when we regroup them.

The Wrapper types that will be regrouped together (with one Icon) are:
CXZ and CXS
Wineskin, Wineskin Self Contained (WineskinSC) and Wine
Cider and the new CiderX

Cider and CiderX will be a light Blue icon. ('official' color of Drakulix' CiderX Project)
CXZ and CXS will be a Orange icon. (CXZ's original origin, CrossOver, has Orange colors)
Wineskin and Wine will get a Red icon. (Doh123's Wineskin Project mainly uses red )
DOSBox will get Black (Black), ScummVM a Green color, and Amiga a Yellow color. The color for the old and now defunct CX Wrapper is up to you.

I made a few example Icons a while back, they look like this:

The 3 Main Wrapper Types:

Posted Image
CXZ / CXS

Posted Image
Wineskin / Wine

Posted Image
CiderX / Cider

The other Wrapper Types:

Posted Image
DOSBox

Posted Image
ScummVM

Posted Image
Amiga

Posted Image
CX (Chromium)

So if you want to participate in our little Contest for our new Status Icons, submit your Entry in this Topic, and we'll make a Poll afterwards to let the Users decide what we should use.

The Entry for the Status Icons should have these properties:
- PNG Format
- 40 x 40 pixels
- a dropshadow
- remember the color codes: CiderX/Cider - Blue, CXZ/CXS - Orange, Wineskin/Wine - Red and so on.
- The differences between them should be clearly viewable, also go easy on the gamma on the colors because lighter colors are better on our current dark Forum theme.
- The Icons may be round to match the other Forum Topic Icons, but can also be pictograms (small symbols in the Icon)
Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image
- you may use elements of the previous Icons but it can not be a full representation of previously used Icons. (due to the grouping together part)

Now to the good Part, the Prize:

Posted Image

DankoB is sponsoring the Prize of this little Contest, the Winner will get a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 from Steam. (native mac Game)

Message from DankoB:
We're talking L4D2 here, so no mediocre icons are gonna win this contest. Incorporate the site's choice of colours... This is going to be a site wide implementation so get creative (this could be a good project for for someone's portfolio ;) )

Contest Entires can be added until the 10. November.

Good Luck

To be perfectly honest I believe a color coded system would be harder to differentiate then the symbols we have now.
I'm back and porting again

So use some symbols along with the colours!

I also agree with you hackvcs...the colours alone may be hard to differentiate from what the others may be. I originally thought that the current logos should not be implemented into the styling but now I think I've changed my mind. Originality is what is going to win this contest!
Contestants may place multiple entries up to 3 sets so long as the concepts for the icons are totally different than the last round they made.

Ok, added this to the First post.

The Icons can also represent pictograms (small symbols in the Icons).
I had this in the description before i posted it, but removed it to avoid some funky icons.
Round Icons should look better in the Forum where they are needed, however you can also add some pictograms in them or just make some big pictograms like darkstar did.

Only solution:
Throw Ideas against the Wall and see what sticks :D

@darkstar771
Those entries just look great.
Could I make a little suggestion?
Put some labels on the bootles!
A little paper diagonal above them that says:
Wine (for Wineskin and Wine Ports)
Cider(X) (for Cider/CiderX)
CX (For all Ports based on Codeweavers work)
Dos
Scumm
and Amiga.
Just for new users and all people, who may forget or do not know the color code.

I am not skilled enough and I think I would ruin your work, if I would try this myself ^^
But if you do so, as a third entry, that would definitely get my vote (If I have one :P )

Not bad - I like the simplicity - but the big letters don't really fit imho - you should use graphics/icons in all of them (just like in the Cider or Wineskin icon for example) and leave them all white as a contrast to the coloured background. The DOSBox font isn't bad though - you could pixelate it a bit more (5px high at max to make it look more retro - or maybe just use a white "C:\>" on black background - looks like a command prompt ;) )

PM me if you wanna talk about it further.

If there was more competition for this contest I would have to enforce this rule. Seeing as how I'm a reasonable person I decided to strike the rule. You guys are lucky!

@RazorPro ... great job on your second round. I especially like your representation for CiderX...good ingenuity! The glazed look really steps it up from the first ones you put up.

Now I do not know what entry I like most  :-(

The bottels are a cool and fresh idea.
Something special. And now they are perfect for me...
But razorpros icons are more.. functional.
Just a little color box with an icon, nothing you do not need, just the minimal. Very simple, I like this style too...

Wow. If no one comes up with something better, I vote for these :D

I think he should skin these ones while he is at it (matching forum all over, they only need to be a round-blue style, but like his icons):
(I believe that you can change those inside phpBB, or atleast change them manually inside the theme)

I was thinking that our icons wouldn't work with the extras like the smiley face.  So, I made the icons for them too.

Once again, here are the port icons:

We'll see what happens next before I upload the individual icons.
