I think it would be prudent to let guests view some of the more embedded threads

We look down on leechers here. We want people to contribute, not leech. A good number of the leechers leave because they do not want to make X posts. I also see that you made this post right after you joined, which leads me to believe you are a warez hunter... this is not a warez site. We will welcome you with open arms if you are able to contribute something, but if you are only here to download the games, then you are proof that the anti-leech system is working.

I disagree, it's not quite as simple as that.
There are a lot of people who just want to use the stuff here, and not wanting to get into the porting business themselves. Nobody looks down on anyone here.
There are always a few black sheep in a category, but this shouldn't speak for all of them.

I got an idea, so we let the guest or new members can see the thread but they cannot see the download link.. So that they woulnd't spam the request section with already ported game. Also, maybe it will 'motivate' them to post more because their game is available but they still can't see it
I got bad english, yeah I know.. Sorry about that!

I see the point of the 'register to view downloadlinks' thing.
This mod didn't work so well the last time i tried to install it, there were some errors with the other mods on this board.
However, when we'll switch forums in the future this will be one of the first mods that will be installed.

Also to the recent changes, only people with a 'Newbie' Rank (min. 5 Posts) can make new requests in the Requests section. See announcements.

Hi all - NEWB here :) ! I joined after seeing many postings by "doh123" on MR (I'm sure you can figure the site out and I don't want to mention it in case it goes against the ToS) stating how fast some of the wrappered games can be versus gaming through VM's (I refuse to use Boot Camp).

I agree that, if left "open" for guests to download, you WOULD have leechers - they just don't want to put in the effort (I used to be one, back in my younger days!). I additionally think that making some posts here, BEFORE being allowed to see the "download" link (haha - I haven't seen one yet!) is a good idea. It DOES encourage people to post something, even if it is "+1" type response.

On the other hand, what IS confusing is if there is a restriction as to where (what sub-forum) you have to post in to have the post "count" towards the limit. I've been on some boards that don't count posts in certain sub-forums, which keeps the post count low, and you can't figure it out. Just saying that this isn't spelled out.

I hope to contribute (someday) and will be checking out the "Wineskin Manual" from nintendotoad's post above.

Great site!

Hey, how about the admins add a button so like you hide your download link in your post, and then whoever wants to view the link must reply to the post in order to get access to that link?

We already have that. It's preferred to not be used though, if I remember right. I think I remember dev or doc saying something about it.
It would just cause pointless spam posts to increase, not worth the trouble IMO.

New here, but does someone have a manual for creating a standalone port for the Application Crossover, I was in the process of trying a few games in the format, including Final Fantasy VIII, Doom 3 and a few more.

Well, i hope this mod can be installed in the system/board. Looks like the easiest way. I hope that you'll find a solution for those errors. In the meantime, many leechers have to understand nothing is free in internet...

BTW ( boy do i HATE youtube videos w/ downloads links and surveys, i always get "not available in your country )

Hey folks - newbie here, and kind of the subject of the discussion. I'm just a gamer with a passion for a handful of games that I really want to run on my Mac. Now, I have no issue with paying for what I need (as long as it's reasonable, mind you), but after some pretty exhaustive searching, this is the only place I've found that has a skin for me to play Thief Gold on my Mac.

Does this make me a 'leecher'? Sure, probably. I'm not too concerned with that. What I'd really like is to be able to play my game. I'm no computer expert, so I can't build these things on my own or I certainly would. In fact, I actually have some trouble following some of the instructions for installing some of these mods and changing codecs, etc as I don't know the vocabulary, haha. That said, I'd really like to know more - which is why I bothered to sign up in the first place.

At any rate, I second JustCreepin's post. Not in any rush here. Thanks all!
