I was thinking about the Port of the week concept and I came up with an idea.

Since some people (and that includes me) usually vote for the game rather than for the wrapper/port, some game categories are more represented than others in the Hall of Fame, reflecting a liking of the community members for said categories instead of reflecting the quality of the work of the members ;
And since there is already a "special week" once in a while for applications / freeware games / DOS games / etc ;

How about each week is a special week? Next week could be "Action week" ; then "Adventure week" ; then "FPS week" ; then "Racing week", and so on and so forth... Under-represented categories could benefit from this as it would encourage people to fill them (and get a chance to receive universal recognition ;) ) and if there is not enough port to make a poll, said category could be reported until there are enough contestants for a poll...

So, what do you think? Please discuss!

We did that already week something like week 25-31 or something - Had genre weeks - but just never labeled it on the Hall of Fame list.

I love the idea of genre weeks since I had initially suggested it Drakulix.

The only issue and I agree with you is that if I put an FPS game everyone votes. But say Dos week had like 5 votes.

We should do it again really. Next week is Demo week.

I will gladly take a suggestion for the week after that.

Or any others that would encourage voting.

What are the prerequisite for being a runner up for port of the week? I know there's this topic that gives guidelines, but can a port be nominated twice? If so, how long apart (1 week, 1 month, 1 year)? Could it be possible to select ports randomly amongst those that have not yet been named PotW?

Some have been nominated twice before. Not the next week mind you but they have been nominated twice.

but for a second nomination the port should have changed in my opinion. If a port was updated and has now a much better framerate or has less issues it can be re-nominated pretty fast, since it is named port of the week and not game. But just re-nominating the same port till it wins is just non sense.

I know I am a fanboy (of sorts) but I would LOVE to see the Poseidon expansion for Zeus Master of Olympus! I miss making my own atlantis....

Why are you hijacking my thread to post something totally unrelated? There is already a port for Zeus, just install Poseidon inside it and you're done.
