I used to have a Form and helped people via email on the Wineskin website.

I have changed this into a forum that stays up so anyone can see and find answers others have asked.

There is a new "Find" option on the website which will search everything, including the forum.

http://wineskin....m.php?forumId=1

I'm hoping this will help more people out, including me, having to keep up with all the requests

All posts have to be approved by me before they show up...  If anyone asks or answers a question and its not extremely off topic or spam, I have no problems approving it.  But as a solo mod, I already get way too much spam daily on the News blogs to want to let the forums be spammed.  I prefer since its just for support keeping the forums open to anonymous posters without having to go through account management and all that stuff.

any suggestions would be welcome!

I think the moderated bit is a good idea - as long as you can keep up with the moderation queue (but in any case better than having to watch for spammers, they give new users a very bad impression).

The only think I'd "fix" would be adding a RSS feed to the forum (yeah, I know, I'm a rss freak), but I don't remember whether tiki supports that - if it doesn't, I guess too much of a pain to code it in, not worth the effort.  Tiki has quite a large codebase already.

I never really thought of anyone wanting an rss feed of the forum...  I went ahead and put one on there though.

Awesome, thanks!

And, of course, but syao is not just an ordinary anyone :P  (well, it's just that I don't like polling webpages for updates - already too many tabs open in my default firefox session - but if the news come to me automagically, I'll give them a look for sure.)

Make that 3. Not a good, idea, indeed.
It was one of the random 3 post spammers to get into the full game section, which is no more as people who can read may have gathered.

but at least these guys will let me test out the warning system on them :P

entirely the wrong place to post...

but anyways, you need more details.  Just downloading it won't do anything... what exactly did you download and what did you do with it?  When does the system freeze, doing what?

I redirected him to the forums (not this thread though) because when he played my Morrowind port his Mac crashed and he head to do a hard reset. Since I don't think that crashing the entire system is specific to the game I think it might be a Wineskin or Wine issue. Here isw the link to my port, you can find his system specs in the comments section:

Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

Click that "Update" button. Then Winery will download a master wrapper and that "No Wrapper Installed" legend will change to "Wineskin-2.5.8". After this you may update your wrappers.

Alright so I've been clicking the update button continuosly however it keeps getting the same result. Is this a bug or is there anywhere I can just download it manually (the Download Packages Manually doesn't have anything to download).

Thanks

Here is latest wrapper version: http://www.mediafire...jocl29oqv1r2ysn

You can download any engine and wrapper from Wineskin Mediafire folder. Here is it: http://www.mediafire.com/wineskin

IIRC you should put the master wrapper under "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Wrapper"

Wineskin deleted itself? Sound like it was trying replace new files.

Maybe you try clean Wineskin Application Support (and wineskin setting file) and Setting then relaunch Wineskin Winery?

Yeah, the wineskin inside one of my wrappers just disappeared and the installer didn't put anything in "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Wrapper"

Aww dude, you may find this link usefull...

Nah, jokes aside.

Hold on, how did that happened?, weren't you installing a master wrapper? In order to being able to upgrade your application wrappers.

Btw, i didn't remebered correctly before, so as Ovvldc said, the installer does all the job, but if it didn't (your case), then something must be wrong, as Reboot said try this and reinstall Winery. I also suggest to clean the caché and restart your Mac, safer the better.

What happened was that I opened the installer and it should have installed 2.5.8. It deleted everything in "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/" and replaced it again. So I tried to update the wineskin wrapper (wineskin > advanced > tools > update) but that deleted the wineskin in the wrapper and I looked in "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Wrapper" and there was nothing there. Thus leading me back to the original problem of 'no wrapper installed' on wineskin winery.

Is it possible that I could get whatever should be in "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Wrapper" to update?

So is there anything I should do?

I don't follow what happened.

never do anything with the master wrapper... definitely do not try to run it, ever, it will break the whole thing... do not try to manually make anything from that wrapper, its only there for Winery to use to make new wrappers, or for old wrappers to get files from to do an update.  Updating the wrapper, or running the downloaded install version, will trash the wrapper folder and put in a new clean copy.  It will not touch any existing usable wrapper.

For interest, what breaks the master wrapper on run?

Well what happened was that :
  • He want to update his game wrappers*, but he can't because
  • Winery reports no master wrapper installed
  • So he came here and asked. Winery refuses to update the master wrapper* automatically so
  • Reboot provided links* for downloading the master wrapper
  • After some confusion*
  • He ran the installer* (for the 2.5.8 master wrapper; Reboot provided the links above) and it should have installed 2.5.8.
  • It (the installer) replaced everything at "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/".
  • So he tried to update a game wrapper (Wineskin > Advanced > Tools > Update).
  • But that deleted the Wineskin.app inside that game wrapper. Then he looked in "~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Wrapper" and found nothing there.
  • Leading him back to the original problem, 'Winery reports no master wrapper installed'*.
Following now?

I did suggested to do some stuff manually before, but seems that he -fortunately- ignored my advice.

@Nanotech Maybe is some broken preference file or corrupted cache what is producing all these errors (actually i don't even know if Wineskin make use of any of these 2 things). In any case you may want to login with a Guest Account and run some tests there?  =/

I can't see a way to reproduce this. A stand-a-lone wrapper installer only trashes the wrapper folder, not the whole Wineskin folder. Beyond that, for Wineskin.app to have vanished, the master wrapper would have to be corrupted or just some general permission issues on the machine.

I do not know if this is the right place to ask this but, when I try to play Fallout 3 and Vegas, wine gives me an error saying: not enogh memory to run application. This only happens with both fallout games not with any other port.
