I made mehself a port of Combat Arms by Nexon! I imported all da system files from a Boot Camp partition into the System Files folder in the drive of the wrapper, then I changed the executable startup file to the Direct Combat Arms exe file, which simply starts up the game instead of bringing you to the Nexon website to press a button and then play the game, like that other exe file does. Then I went through the wrapper checklist and did some tidying up, and voila! I had myself a Combat Arms wrapper. Now to test it...

Unfortunately, on launch, it simply bounced a little and then crashed with no error message! What am I to do?

It would ALSO be nice to be able to open your wrappers with CXEx Central and edit them, but I can't find a way to do that. Somebody help me!

To get inside the wrapper you right click or option click on teh wrapper and select show package contents. It should then bring up and window with the contents of tha wrapper.  So open up the contents folder and you will see a CXExSettings.app that will you to edit stuff about the wrapper and do winetricks and other stuff but in the resources (resources folder is in the same folder as CXExsettings) and inside the resources folder is a logs folder with log files with information on how the port ran he last time you tried to run it and have crash information. I don't read logs very well but I'm sure you can find someone that can. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the tip!

I figured out that a better way to do this is to run the installation file, but I think the setup files I have aren't working well. I have no choice but to download the setup file again in an attempt to salvage the last hope of ever having this damn wrapper working. Wish me luck!

Well, downloading it didn't help, but I found out a way to get the installer to work. Anyhoo, the wrapper still just crashes instantly when I try and open it. :-(. Is there something I'm missing? I would upload the wrapper, but it's about 3.5 GB big, so it would take forever to upload.

Well, I tried running it from the Explorer, and it worked fine until Hackshield tried doing something. Then it just gave an error message and quit the program, leaving ExplorerXP or whatever up.

Some CXEx ports won't work on Lion anymore. I had games running perfectly fine on Snow Leopard but on Lion they all crash or don't even start up at all. A few ones still work though.
Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

The wine log:
Spoiler

Is pretty generic, could be a thousands ways that happens.
The x11 log doesn't say me very much, i simply doesn't have much knowledge about it.

The debug tools in wineskin is a bit better than cx so i'd take a test there and see if you get better debug wine.logs

Thanks for your replies. As for cluthz's reply, thanks for the input. I'll be sure to check out Wineskins soon, or at least with Combat Arms. I've actually tried out Wineskins, and the installer has problems, like in CXEx without bottles. Is there any way to enable DirectX 9.0 or something in Wineskins?

P.S. As for the log files, what's $DISPLAY? what surprises me is the $ in front of DISPLAY. Is CXEx written in Perl or something? Or do other languages have $ in front of their variables?

As far as I know, all unix shells (including the ones available on OS X then) use $ as varable prefix.  That's why many unix programs mention it.  (The message is from wine/crossover itself, not from CXEx - the shell variable $DISPLAY is where all X based programs expect to find the "address" of the running X11 server)

Dev has made a fix for Lion but some wrappers still get broken. My Arx Fatalis, King's Bounty, Enclave and Icewind Dale wrappers don't work anymore even though they worked on Snow Leopard and they are all made with CXEx, not CX. Arcanum and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 still work though.

Wine's version of DX9 is already there... you do not need to install it.

Sometimes you need certain dlls or all of MS DX9... but thats a case by case basis, its best to try with nothing extra installed first.  If you do need any of them, they are installable in Winetricks.

Is it OK to install DX9 with the windows online installation thingy using the built in installer for Wineskins? The online installation thingy updates everything in DX9 that's not there already.

Ugh, as I said, some ports still run, while other do not anymore. You just got lucky that the ports you're playing still work.

EDIT: That's also the reason why Drakulix is making CiderX 2.0 use Wineskin instead of CXEx.
