I'm with you on the Baldur's Gate series, including IWD1+2.  I absolutely adored those and wish they'd produced more of them with the Infinity Engine.
I'm surprised to hear of dislike for Oblivion, for me it was an up-to-date Eye of the Beholder in terms of gameplay so I loved it.  However, I can appreciate the reason for your criticism.

Recently I felt on an old DOS RPG called Darklands. It's based in medieval Germany and is quite historically searched and accurate. If you can get passed the old graphics, I really do recommend this game, it is really one of the best RPGs I've played (and I played NWN, BG1, Gothic 2, TES III & IV, FFVII)! Beware though, you'll need to read a bit on the game if you don't want to do like I did and create a party that's not strong enough to complete the game!

If there is a problem with one of my wrappers, please let me know by posting on the game thread AND by sending me a pm.
If there are no problems, then a little "Thank you!" is always heart-warming! ;)

I saw this was announced on gog.com like two weeks ago.
It looks promising!

I've been playing Divinity 2 these days and it's mighty fun

Good thing we have the DKS version with the Flames of Vengeance DLC because the ending of Ego Draconis sucks a bit hard.

Yeah i'm in FoV now, and the EG ending was a bit .. eh.. special.
I won't spoil anything, but I'm pretty sure FoV was a sure thing already when the released EG.

Loved the first two Fallouts, but I didn't care for 3.  It just didn't feel like Fallout to me.  New Vegas is the true sequel if you ask me.

Planescape: Torment is pretty much the best game ever though.

Hey guys.  I'm new but i'll give my input on this one. I love rpg games.  They rock. The idea of being able to come home from work frustrated and then to dive in to a world being someone completely different is really relaxing. Idk about you guys but when I have a bad day I come home through in Fallout 3 or The Elder Scrolls and i kill whoever and terrorize every town i can to burn off some steam.  When I have a good day I save people and go do the harder quests or searchs.  Personally my favorite rpg's are all the oblivions, all the fallouts, i dig a lil WOW from here to there and i am deep into Fallout 2 right now.  I have dabled in baulders like most of you talked about but never really got into it.  I would love some recomendations though.

I prefer action/RPGs such as Ys seven and Fable- The Lost Chapters along with Diablo 1 and 2. I was never very good with stratagy based RPGs with all the different stats and classes with sub classes it all got too confusing for me, so I prefer manual control over combat rather than stat calculated combat (Summoner, Never Winter Knights (only #1 since my computer can't handle #2, World of warcraft and Knights of the Old Rebuplic were exceptions), I also prefer real time ( hack 'n' slash) over turnbased combat. I pretty much play RPGs for armor and weapon designs (Fable, WOW, Never Winter Nights ect.)

Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines.
I must just say, that I never expected this. I picked this one up ages ago on sale and really never got to play it.
Ever since twilight and true blood teenage vampire love has been all over tv and everything it really didn't feel right to play it :p
Then I decided to try it and port it, since it was already an older cider port from 2009 on this forum.

First I just thought I should play for an hour or two to check that it was a stable port, but then I got hooked!
I've been working late shift this week so I've had a lot of time on my hand, and I've played this game all the time (on my MBA)
Now I've played like 3-5 hrs every day since monday and I really can't stop until I finish this (and I'm still working on finishing up NWN2!)
I've heard the game isn't that long and should be like 20-25hrs, so I guess I'm more than half way.

How's this going? :good:  Bloodlines can really suck the life out of you....... :"":

I've finished about 3 times now and the Ocean Hotel level still scares me.
Right now, its all about Skyrim but I've recently given TwoWorlds2 a chance though it received quite a few negative reviews.

List:

SW: KotoR 2
Diablo 2 + LOD
Fallout 3
Fallout 2
Dragon Age: Origins + Awakening
DA:2
Torchlight
The Witcher

... theres one I've forgotten though  :%)

I did finish Vampire yes amazing game! I must agree the Ocean View Hotel was quite scary, I must admit if it was even more scary than it was, I'd probably stop there :)

Two Worlds 2 is definitely worth playing. The game is an action RPG much like DA2, but it's more open world.
The first hour of the game is really boring, but when you get to the main world and get yourself a horse (there are even more things to get for transportation) it opens up very much.
There are several ways to end quests, but it is still a bit linear, although not as linear as DA2.

The fact that they have made a native mac port is amazing, as far as i know it's the only modern RPG that is mac native! I'm gonna buy the expansion when it gets on sale on steam (I think €29 is a bit much for an expansion).

I've been itching to boot up Darkstone again.  It is an old Diablo 2 clone, but 3d and with better camera controls.  The whole single player campaign is only like ~10 hours, but it has some randomly generated aspects, so you can load up the same character and run through it again to see new things.

Definitely one of my favorites in the "oldies but goodies" category.

I've always loved RPGs. My favourites have been the bioware games, especially Torment. Never really tried the Fallout series, so this is clearly where I have to go next. Looking forward to trying out many of the suggestions on here.

Fallout 1 and 2 is really worth it! The graphics are much the same as PST, which often keep new players away, but since you already know the genre you'll love it.

Fallout 1 and 2 have a more tactical combat which is turn based, and the story is so diverse with almost too many options and factions. In fallout 2 make sure to save when you enter New Reno the first time, because I'm pretty sure you can spend 100 hours alone playing all the different options there!

By the way, the fallout games are on holiday sale on www.gog.com for $2.99! That's a steal!

I would strongly suggest to play them in chronological order, at least 1 and 2. 3 and NV kinda is not related much so it doesn't matter.

Btw the UI in fallout 1 is a bit irritating (looting takes a bit too much time), but Fallout 2 made it much easier with "loot all" button etc.

RPGs are probably my most favourite genre, mainly because they offer such rich game experiences. However, my biggest enemies in RPGs are not the orcs, dragons or whatever, but the eldritch horror known as the interface and his younger brother, the camera. Seriously, not many things can annoy me as much as a bloated or poor interface. The interface is basically the main reason why i stopped playing Arcanum, it's such an uncomfortable game.

BTW, am i the only one who was disappointed by Planescape Torment? First of all, the only chracter build that is worth playing is a diplomat who talks his way through the entire game. A warrior, mage or thief is not worth playing, as combat sucks and there are not enogh opportuniteis for a thief to use his skills. Planescape Torment is not an RPG, it's a point & click adventure, which would be fine if all those useless RPG mechanics and the bloated interface wouldn't slow the game down. What seals the deal is that there is always one ideal way to play the game, which ruins the role-playing aspect, when there is cleary one ideal way to act.
Games I own that still need porting:
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Descent 3, Fallout, Space Rangers 2

I've just started to play the expansion on Two Worlds 2 and with Skyrim fresh in mind I connot describe how much better the TW2 graphics are.
It's also an amazing mac port and with everything maxed I never go below 60 FPS!
The game isn't as good as skyrim in many terms.
The quests are weaker, the story is very slow in the start, but the environment and music is superb!

Here are some screen shots from my mac, sadly I have to compress them a bit so it doesn't ake ages to load this page:

Dang, bought it in the Winter Steam sale and traded it, now you're making me wish I hadn't! :(

Also, we need a new abbreviation for it. TW2 could mean another popular RPG that we happen to have ported ;)

Hehe, in all fairness Two Worlds 2 was first.
I think the Witcher 2 is actually shortened TW:AA
The Witcher: Assassin of Kings

But due to popular demand the game is often referred to as TW2

I feel sorry for RPGs many times when people list games as RPGs that just aren't RPGs...  :-(
