hello everybody (sorry for mi english but i'm studding)
well i have a problem with final fantasy 8 in de train when squall fall sleep.
appears a message (the problem can be with wine )

plese i need your help thank's

Use the Wineskin one - I can confirm that problem.

It is not there in the Wineskin version.

Switch back to CXE after that scene if you wish and it works.

i have exactly the same issue

How can i do that? is there a tutorial or something?
i dont know how to port a game, or use the wineskin...

but if there is a tutorial or you can tell me how, i will thank you very much

Guys the port with CXex doesnt work either on Snowleopard it crashes on the same place.


Pretty please can anyone be so gentle to give me a save file after that scene?

Ok...

I downloaded Wineskin,   made a winesekin version out of the CXex one, run the game correctly...same crash, same place.

Any helpfull suggestions moderators??  Different engine?? wich one??

I should have several savegames for the first three CDs of ff8, so I might have that one, too.  Not sure if I have them on my laptop so I might not be able to post one until this thursday when I'll get back home.

Could you please post your current savegame, so I may check it out and see if I manage to skip the crashy point somehow  (or at least try to figure out why it crashes).

Okies, I'll give it a try after classes today.

Same crash here (even if I'm not using the same wrapper - I had installed some of the same patches as waves' though).  I'll try to debug the problem later.

In any case I managed to get to the next save point by loading the savegame on my old PC where I still had FF8 installed.

I entered the room, fell asleep after listening to Zell's lecture, then killed a few Funguar with Laguna, drawn a few Cure and Water fromt eh draw points in the forest and went to Galbadia.  I saved at the Galbadia Hotel right after entering the city.

Please let me know if there's any problem with it.

Now, i dont know whats happening with this port but it crashed again after the dream  is over and you get to Timber, you get off the train...  Pum! black screen again.

I guess is gong to crash randomly from now on....i dont know, if you think thers any fix prosibble lets try it!  I really really want to kick Ultimecia's butt one more time!  :)

I'm not sure on the reason of the crash, but I saved the wine log so I can look into it as soon as I have some free time.  The thing I noticed in the game is that, even on the PC (it's a pentium 4, so more than perfectly capable to run the game with no slowdowns at all), it freezes for half a second when entering the dream, in the spot where wine crashes.  It's also a screen filled with semi-transparent (thought-like) message bubbles.  I wonder if it's their fault.

If you post your savegame again, I can give it a try on my wrapper as well, and see if I can find any patterns in common with the other crash (and, since I'm at it, I can move you forward to the next save point).

There´s the save...you´ll probably have to pass all the Laguna's scene with Julia....i guess a save in Timber city well be enough.

Like i said y tried this port on Lion AND Snowleopard and it doesn't work either...but in Snowleopard you get an error screen that suggests you to contact code weavers.com for compatibility issues....totally useless by the way. In lion is black screen and freeze's to death.
I know that several users has this version of FF8, cos'  the Cxex one is  going around in every form I visited, but almost no one complained about this issue. Except this guys in this thread and me....

I caught the culprit.  I don't have a fix right now, but a workaround.

If you disable the option "Use high Res Fonts (Requires 8MB of VRAM)", the crashes shouldn't happen.  You can find it in the FF8Config tool.  Text will look horrible, but at least the game will be playable.

If i would upload my savegame just right before teh game crashes, would you do the same thing for me, saveing in deling city???

Sure, I don't mind, but since I'm a little busy with exams this week, you'll have to wait a little.

If you want it sooner, you can just fix it through FF8Config.
To do so, you'll have to run Wineskin.app and create a cusotm Exe (Advanced->Tools->Custom EXE creator) and point it to "drive_c/Program Files/Eidos Interactive/Square Soft, Inc/FINAL FANTASY VIII/FF8Config.exe", then run it and disable the "Use high Res Fonts (Requires 8MB of VRAM)" checkbox.
You can then re-enable it once you went through the crashy sequence.
