I would really like to change the forum's look to my taste (I find it too dark).
But I don't want to force you guys to change the theme, you could have an option in the Control Panel that lets you choose what you want, or at least change the base colors.

I do believe a larger forum overhaul is planned, until then I guess we're stuck with the dark theme.
