The "Highest Rated" section is really... REALLY inaccurate. Games with only one or two 'votes' are in there. For example:

Ports should not be in the top rated just because 1 person (if I had to guess, some of these are mostly just their owners voting for them) voted for them.
I'm not complaining or anything, just suggesting this should be fixed.
(Please note: I'm not moaning because one of my ports are not on there or anything, so don't think that's why. I just think this should be fixed to give a better representation of what the Top Rated ports really are; not because the owner gave themselves 5 stars.)

Nothing to fix, the system just works that way.
If two users give 5 stars, then the result is still five stars. It's what they game the Port.
Sadly there isn't a threshold option in the PDB for this, only for the Forum. (perhaps we'll find a mod sometime)

Other users will surely rate this over time.
Seems like everyone here just is lazy to rate things or 'like' stuff.

I've displayed this Topic in the Announcement for 3 Weeks, but it didn't change anything in activity here. Only lots of time will change that.
And it won't change much if i implement the topic link directly into the Port Database. (i wanted to try that however)

The only thing that bugs me with the rating is, that people tend to rate their liking of the Game more than the actual Port (how it works, etc)
We also had that with the 'Port of the Week' we had on the last Forum, people only voted for their favorite game instead of the actual Wrapper Port.
It was a flawed system anyway, no-one could download all Ports and try them out and then vote for them.

The rating here is not flawed so much like the POTW was, but still not accurate currently.

Also note that they may be marked as highest rated ports for a short while, but as people test them and think the contrary, people will give lower ratings, bringing down the average. This takes time I guess.

I saw a fair rating system in macupdate site, maybe is a good idea to consider for the future: http://cl.ly/1G3L1X2O243S0i0i0r0c

If you want to rate in MU:
- Yo have to comment
- You have to rate specific aspects

- Ease of use

- Features

- Stability

- etc.

The idea could work here too, just have to find some standard aspects; ask people to rate 1 to 5 stars some aspects of the port, stability, how well explained, if it has manual, if it has extras, etc, then you get:

- 3 Stability

- 5 Well explained

- 4 Manual

3+5+4 / 3 = 4 stars for that port

And you never asked if the user liked the game.

This system isn't bad. Actually pretty cool.

The only problem with the system is, I don't believe that anybody will rate something with that system. It take to much time and the most users here don't even rate yet with only one thing to rate

I think that's going to be a problem, because I'm guessing that the portdatabase is a standard feature of the server software installed here.
This system can be implemented however, you have to rewrite a lot of code!
