I feel that porters could better help those who need help if the porter could see when someone asked a question on a port, rather then the current system where you need to go into every port you create to check.

Click the 'Follow this Port' link on the top right, and leave the settings as they are in the popup.
You'll get notices i think when someone replies, and you can view all your followed stuff in your 'Content i follow' field (click your name on the top right)
Best way there is, and currently there is no other way implementable.
Edit: even easier view:

Visit your profile, you can see everything there.
