Is there any version of Snes9X via WINE or Cider available? In my personal opinion the Snes9x OSX port is not as good as the Windows version when it comes to Save states, and overall feel/function.

Thanks a bunch

What version of SNES9x have you tried?

From what I read here, 1.53 build 113 fixed a problem with save states, you might want to try that before looking for a wine-based port.

Quite a few, on and off for awhile. I keep going back to either using Snes9x GX for wii or installing windows.

Heres the main things that bother me:

-Controls and how they are adjusted
-You have to pause to adjust any settings within the emulator
-You cant just shift+f1/f2/f3 etc for save states and f1/f2/f3 for resuming like on the windows version. You have to manually select the state each time you save with its screenshot interface. Its a nice feature aesthetically, but not so much when it comes to function.

Since the windows version of Snes9x doesn't do this, I figure that having a Wine based snes9x (or zsnes for that matter) would be the easiest alternative. Thoughts?

Not sure about this.. I can't say I have used it much, but the controls setting window (both the keyboard one and the gamepad one) don't seem that bad to use...

Yeah, this seems to include the freeze/defrost state, and the cmd-q to quit. It's a bit annoying, but hitting cmd-r to pause it is still bearable to me.

Indeed, it's not too practical... If you use just one slot, you can cmd-r cmd-f (pause-freeze) and as soon as you release the cmd key it'll automatically choose the last used slot and resume the game. Same for the cmd-r cmd-d (pause-defrost), it'll load from the last saved slot and resume. Not really practical indeed, but better than moving your hand to the mouse to pick from their stupid GUI...

Since the Snes9x project seems to be still sort of alive, maybe they'd be willing to improve it if they received suggestions or reports, it may be worth a try.

I noticed I have a native ZSNES.app in my Applications directory. Some research about where I found it brought me here: http://board.zsnes.c...php?f=6&t=13432
You might want to give it a try, though I've never been really fond of ZSNES, I've always opted for Snes9x both on windows and on OS X...

As for the windows executable running through wine, it should be doable, the wine appdb has platinum/silver/bronze ratings for it (depending on the wine version and snes9x version), so it might be possible to get it to work flawlessly with some luck. I haven't tried, but if anyone feels like giving it a try...

I'll check out the zsnes port, thanks. Yeah it would be cool if snes9x ended up getting ported as I prefer it to Zsnes as well.

I agree. There are many snes mac emulators. Don't just think this one is the only one...

bsnes has the same issue as snes9x or zsnes when playing patched games, such as lunar magic smw ports, etc. It has something to do with custom music, IIRC.

Zsnes or snes9x are the only alts for those patched games. That being said, I still think the PC function of snes9x is better than the OSX counterpart, and if bsnes or any other emu could rival its function, I would use that. Personal pref I suppose.
