Lately this forum have been run over with Work in Progress ports.
This is not a bad thing, but WIP ports should have a lot of info attached to make it easier to continue the work.

To help out with a port you really need some info, and posting a WIP port with out it is just filling the port database.

I would like to see following mandatory additions to a WIP port post:

First a very good explanation:
What works
What doesn't
Other issues.

Your complete system specs!
THings might differ on 10.6/10.7 and amd/nvidia

Then a bit more.
1. Link to appdb!! and rating!
2. Game info!
3. Wine engines tried.
4. WInetricks used
5. Patches used
6. Other things done
(reg hacks etc..)
7. Logs

Summary

Example. (fyi, this port works, but it's just an example)

Quote

Risen -WIP

What works:
Game starts, is playable
Sound
Multiplayer
Limited mouse movement

What does not:
Mouse does not turn 360°

Other issues:
Some issues with fonts.

My system:
OSX 10.8.13
iMac 2013
Intel Core 3 Trio 13.37GHz
16GB RAM
NVidia Riva TNT 128 - 64 MB VRAM

Extended info:
1. AppDB
Rated Silver, link: http://appdb.winehq....ation&iId=10408

2. Game info.
RPG game, from deep silver.
http://en.wikipedia....sen_(video_game)

3. Wine engines tried
Tested engine 1.3.9, Cx10.0.17 and 1.3.24
Issues persist on all of them

4. WInetricks used
vcrun2008
dx9_36
dx13_37

5. Patches used
Raw3 patch from http://bugs.winehq.o...gi?id=20395#c38
->this one fixed some mouse problems.

6. Other things done
Setting RegEdit:
Awesomeness=enabled in HKCU/Software/wine/Direct3D/
->Without this all tress are pink

7. Logs

fixme:wbemprox:DllCanUnloadNow
fixme:win:RegisterRawInputDevices (pRawInputDevices=0x229eb74, uiNumDevices=1, cbSize=12) stub!

8. Summary

Game runs with some issues.
RawInput did fix some mouse issues, without it mouse didn't work at all
Game does not start without dx13_37 and dx9_36 and vcrun2008 is needed for multiplayer

Font issues still remains and mouse is only partially working

Without this it's nearly impossible to help out on a WIP port.
You have to check registries, looking for dlls installed and so on.

This would really help actually to see what people have tried and maybe some problems could be solved without having to download the WIP wrapper. More info is always better...lol at your system specs wow thats a nice machine lol

Makes sense that we should use a different template for the work in progress stuff.
The pre-defined description field is unfortunately not easy to set up like in the forum with various different templates, but we'll look into it.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Hmm, I'll look into this. Perhaps ot's not too hard, if I manage to reuse some of the code I wrote for the category specific download button label.
