X11 and Linux Apps?

How can i compile linux apps ?
How can i run them with x11?
How can i run Linux apps with an x-org server (stored in a .app like wineskin)
Can i run precompiled linux ubuntu apps with X11 ?

a lot of questions :D

You can get a lot through Macports... you can compile stuff yourself but it may have other dependencies like qt or gtk missing you need as well.

Running full self contained X11 is a pain... but just making an app that uses the installed version of XQuartz in its own Icon is not hard and documented on the XQuartz website.

Just like you can't run precompiled windows apps, you can't run precompiled linux apps either. Many linux apps (but not all of them) can be recompiled for Mac, as long as they don't use linux-specific stuff. As doh said, you're likely to have to compile a lot of dependencies, better to do that through MacPorts.  You might also have to edit the sources for many apps, since they might be looking for libraries or headers in the wrong places.

On a side note, for Qt apps there's a native Mac port, so you won't even need X11.  For Gtk apps there's a (somewhat clumsy) native port as well.

ps: the linux program  i want to use isnt in the mac ports catalog.

ps2: @hmtinc thats not an solution (fink is like mac ports and havent the program im want to use)
