i was wondering since there is now a change theme option.
Would it be possible for users to upload / link to their own custom theme and apply it to their account . So when ever they log in they get to browse the forums with their own custom  theme .
That would be cool

:D

The problems with this are two:
- themes include images and are potentially heavy on the ipb database/webserver if we have too many installed (assuming there even was a way to make them user-installable)
- stock themes just won't work. We have too many customizations installed and edited stuff, so each and every theme would need to be heavily edited

We're gonna switch from the default theme to something else better looking in a future update in any case, so you'll get at least two options.

In case none looks good to you, there should be browser addons (i.e. Stylish for Firefox that let you override styles on any sites you want - provided that you write your own custom css stylesheet. I do that on some sites that are too heavy on my eyes)

But can't you install like 4- 5 different themes on the server and give the users the choice out of those 4-5 themes on which one they want to use.
Mybb, phpbb, vbulliten all have this feature.
I  am pretty sure ipb has it

os since the theme is quite plain currently you should hold something like a art contest . To see who can make a better theme and then install the winning theme

There are a lot of themes for IPB, and we're searching for one right now that doesn't suck.
You can search for one that you like yourself and post the link to it here. (light only, not dark)
Right now we're tending towards using Pulse (link -> http://www.tomchrist...co.uk/downloads ), but it seems to be a pain to edit, and has some lackings in the interface for some things here.

As syao said, installing multiple themes stresses the database and the cache a lot, so we'll go just with one for starters.

Pulse for the win! But why don't you want dark themes?

How about some plain simple Colours that you can choose at any time? With an option for a client/computer side "Remember my choice" tick box thingy.

(Not exactly a theme but still!)
