I am trying to port Tribes: Ascend. I have succeeded where others have failed by getting the launcher to start.

I used thanoulas' engine from here: http://portingteam.c...ithout-xinput2/

I installed DirectX 9, C++ 2008, and .NET 2.0 and 3.0 (which are the marked requirements for the game)

However, when I get to the launcher, it becomes stuck on 'Connecting to the authentication service'.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

My Mac OS X Version:
Mac OS X 10.7.3

My Mac Model, GPU & CPU:
2011 MacBook Pro
2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB, also Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.

I installed both .NET 2.0 and 3.0. 3.0 didn't allow the launcher to run, but after I installed 2.0 the launcher....launched, I guess?

I have no idea what you just said but it probably won't help me at all anyway.

Yeah, that was my fail attempt at a joke. The launcher came up, it just hung on connecting to the servers. :P

Hmmmm....  If it is a wifi issue, it might be unfixable...  Did you try the razor crack?  Some people reported that the game works after that!

i installed directx 9, microsoft .net Frameworks 2.0 sp1 and 2 along with .net 3.0 sp1,c++2008,MSXML 6.0,msls31, and Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8. i got it to install and start to download then it brought up a authentication error and started to uninstall the files that were downloaded after i hit ok./ got a little interested in why it would uninstall and did a +winsock trace, the launcher makes 2 separate connections into the server, one is .net that goes to 0.0.0.0:17729. the other port isn't connecting which restarts the connection into the first port and i guess it is just in a endless loop of retrying.

*edit* little more work in trace files i found that the .net binds to 0.0.0.0:17729, but the connection is to 127.0.0.1, which is a lPv4 local address

any thoughts on trying to put net.4 into use on this, have heard there are developer tools that can be used to tweak it

Crossover Games just failed at "authorizing" or whatever. Should I install in PC (Bootcamp) then just put the files in a wrapper? Should I manually install .NET in that bottle?

Everything fails at authorizing. Yeah, try Bootcamp. :)

Dev version of my launcher connects to the auth server, but fails at getting data back for now. It's close, I've already found the game files servers, so if I can get the latest version from the server we can get the files. Next thing is to run the patcher!

We should get a Porting Team server going for Tribes: Ascend after this, seems like a lot of people from here are interested in it. :D

I would but it's just code for now :) The thing is really complicated, I have no idea why they did it like that. I'm building it in MacMono and ObjC, but now that I've got the server connection stuff sorted out it shouldn't be too long for a screenshot. I reversed their launcher and service, and I still have to reverse two more assemblies that handle data and one with helper utilities.
My launcher can so far connect, ping the server, get the news for a product, get the productList, and a few more functions. I'm trying to document them as I go, but so far I get response for everything.

As for the look of it, I plan to make it look like the original one, with a little "mac" feeling.

Guys, this is not a small project. There is progress, but it's going to take some time before it actually works. So here's how it is:
1. Connection to Server: Done
2. Authentication: Done
3. Fetching Profile: Done
4. Fetching Game version: Done
5. Fetching File List for Download: Done
6. Fetching File Servers: Done
7. Game Installation: NOT Done
8. File Download: NOT Done
9. Wrapper Setup: NOT Done
10. Launcher-to-Wrapper Connection: NOT Done
11. Update Patcher: NOT Done
12: User interface: Partially Done
13. Who knows: NOT Done

And now for a teaser...:
