In the old Forum we had a few Ports posted that were not in English Language.
Some were Russian, some were German, and i think i saw a French one.

From experience i can say that not many people know english very well where i'm from, and they would feel more comfortable if there was more of their native content around here.
One of the things that i planned to do with the Port Database was allowing non-english Ports in there.
So you can post a Port totally in Russian or German or French or whatever into the Port Database.

Each non-english Port has to be tagged at the end of the title with [RU] or [DE] or [FR] for example. That's it.
Example how this could look like in the Port Database:

Crysis Warhead [RU]
Final Fantasy VII
Mirror's Edge
Mass Effect 2 [DE]
Fallout New Vegas

(the ones that do not have a [language] tag are in plain english.

The language in these Ports can be written entirely in that non-english language.

A few reasons for this:
- limiting the Port Database just for English speakers may limit it's potentional
- a good half of the people here speak English, the other half does not. (i see this in the statistics)
- some other non-english sites also try to building up a some sections with Wine Ports, with this they can submit their Ports here as well.
- there are some Language Packs planned for this system, so in the future one can view the Board and the Port Database in other languages

We could add a little flag to each Port that shows what Language the Posts in the PDB are written in, but the [language] tags in the game's title is usually noticed firstly.

What do you think?

this is not a bad idea ... But do you think you could place the non english ports in a special section into port database . so english speaking users don't get confused :D

I think this is a fantastic idea. We should definitely allow other languages into the port database. I do not think however that we should segregate these ports from the english language ports. Kinda defeats the purpose of expanding the Port Database. If the user clicks on the port without noticing the language tags they'll definitely notice the non english text and then realize that the port was uploaded in another language.

I vote yes!

I agree with DankoB here.  We're keeping things sorted by game category, let's stick with that.  Making extra categories for language-specific ports would make it a pain to browse through in my opinion.
As long as they have a [LANGUAGE] tag, they can stay in the same category as the English ports.

I have one French port here in the Scummvm section - so language tag would be good.

I would definitely agree with this idea... IF the language tag would be in the front of the game's name. For example:

[RU] S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
Mirror's Edge
[DE] Mass Effect 2
Fallout New Vegas
PC Specs:
Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 Gunmetal Black Motherboard: Gigabyte GAZ77X UD3H CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K GPU: Gigabyte 7950 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2 X 4GB Low Profile Keyboard & Mouse: Corsair K60 & M60

I won't put the tag in front of the package name. I'm not a native speaker of English, but I'd still looking for the name of the game first.

And another user explained it to you, Hrachya, why putting them before the Port Name would not be very good.

I don't want to bump into a German port and start reading, then after 20 minutes realize it's not English. So the tag should be in the front. Or as Htminc said, put them into a different section.

You'd need 20 minutes to realize that the language that you are now reading is not english? o.O

Joke aside, the Wrappers are always English anyway. Only the description in the Port Database would be in a different language than usual.

Not sure if it is good idea. There would be multiple version for one port, and each one may contain different version of wrapper, this could lead only to problems. Better idea would be to add possibility for registered users to add translated description to the existing port (author/moderator/translation moderator to confirm to prevent invalid entries), and the forum setting/geolocation would select which language will show to user by default (or just adding country flag to the port, which will switch language).

Only problems I see there is that port comments may go multi-language, and it may be harder to implement.

Also, we would finally find out what is blinxfrost mother language :)
