Hey guys! I'm Chris, and I love the work you are doing here! I've been using your wrappers for a while now, and I've decided I want to start making some of my own. I prefer CiderX wrappers over Wineskin, so what tools, knowledge, and skillsets will I need to get started with porting?

I think the cider tutorial was a bit outdated and was removed.
When Cider X2 is released there will be a new one.

CiderX is just a improved Cider wrapper with porting tools inside.
(The final product with Cider and CiderX should be identical)

Basically you install apps with XInstaller and use XWrapper to set path.
debugging is much the same as with wineskin, but logs are in Resources/logs
The LastCider.log is the log you use.

Cider will ONLY run apps that can start directly into fullscreen, so launchers does not work.

Anyways, you have 10.6 and a mac with nvidia (nvidia is usually easier to get to work than ATI/AMD) you'll have a perfect setup to learn Cider porting.

Cider is a lot harder to work with than Wineskin, so I suggest starting with wineskin to learn the basics as many of the basics there can be helpful for cider/ciderX porting.

Most regedit hacks does not work with cider, but several of the hacks can be used thru the Xconfig app.
Using plain Cider is also harder than Cider X, since you need to install everything somewhere else, transfer over, manually edit files with plist editor.

Even tho CIderX doesn't work as well on Lion as a porting tool, the finished product is 100% compatible with Lion.

CiderX also has TONS of engines, but you can usually stick with 5413, which is the newest in CIderX and its compatible with 10.6 and 10.7.
5413 is also one of the fastest engines, even there are newest engines, most of them are less compatible.

Also, ports NEEDS the game to be cracked!
Xtricks/Winetricks should usually be avoided, BUT can be used for dx9 and physx, and vcruns.

I realize that this might be a lot of info, and to be honest, this is just the very basics.
Porting takes time to learn (especially cider porting) and it's a lot of trial and error.
It took me many hours to learn it and after 50 ports I'm still learning something new each time I port.

So if you have the time, a bit more than basic computer knowledge and drink a lot of coffee :P then you'll soon master it!

SSDD, bro. Except, you know, replace 'Day' with 'Wrapper'.
